I have a poorly done lower back tattoo that was carved into my back using an exacto knife and black tattoo ink. I'm trying to find a way to have it removed. Does anybody have experience with this, or can anyone offer me any advice? You're help will be much appreciated.

My plan of action would be to have the laser removal and then use Mederma

http://www.mederma.com/aboutMederma.html

DOUBLE the amount of time they recommend in between each laser session and use the Mederma in between.

Needling is good treatment as a follow up after all the laser sessions are finished and if raised scarring remains - not too many tattoo artists are familiar with that - mostly the cosmetic tattoo artists do that. Keep up with the Mederma.

Your final options, if there is absence of color left behind, is to find someone who is VERY VERY good at skin color matching tattoos or a very good artist that can do a fabulous cover piece.

ouch! well there is no removing scar tissue. time and topical aids are the only things that will affect scar tissue; and that depends on your skin type. some people's skin produces too much scar tissue and such things never really go away.

without actually seeing your back i cant say anything about it's ability to be covered-up. i rarely encounter a tattoo that cannot be covered up, but your case sounds like it may be one of those situations.
good luck

Yikes! What about talking to a real tattoo artist and see if you can get it covered up. Laser would be expensive and from the sounds of it not sure if it would be totally removed. I have a homemade tattoo myself that was the dumbest thing ever. I am getting it covered up next month. Good luck!

I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL but... i've burnt myself before and got a nice scar from it. like, held a safety pin over a candle and just pressed it on my skin. so you might want to try branding, instead of scarification

the best thing i can suggest is to see a doctor. they'll be able to help you find someone to remove it with a laser.
you could get it covered up, but scars don't hold ink as well (from experience), and i'm under the impression you don't want it anymore at all.
you could also get it cut off. some people have their tattoos surgically excised, in which the skin containing the tattoo is removed from the body, but this, as you can imagine, would definitely leave a scar.

I'd try to get the ink lightened with a laser and then get a REALLY good cover up. You dont want something youre going to regret again. And people need to calm down, its not like no one has ever done something they later regretted.

Why don't you try to get the ink lightened with laser surgery and then get a real tattoo, performed by a professional to cover it.
