Spoil the Child?
If so then why?

I manage to raise 4 good kids and did not spare the rod. Now what the rod was is the question. The rod doesn't have to be a spanking or a whacking. It can be a non-physical rod.I found ,grounding and extra chores to be all the rod I needed most of the time..."But DAD! I was supposed to go to the dance!" is much more effective than beating the crap out of someone who loves you.Besides, two coats of wax on my truck? Who doesn't like that?
Ended up with two teachers with Masters degrees and a E.R.nurse as well as still a student.

Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Proverbs 23:13-14 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. 14 If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.

Proverbs 13:24 Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Not every child needs physical discipline, but most of them do, especially when they are very young and they can't understand why the parent doesn't want them sticking a metal object into a wall socket or why they have to look both ways before crossing the street.

Then there are some who when they get older don't understand why their parents have other rules that only seem designed to stop them from having fun. I know that I got spanked plenty of times and it was a good thing because I was a very willful child with a lot of imagination but not enough years to have understanding about what was really good or bad for me to be doing.

Spanking a child and hitting them are two different things. Spanking a child is done out of love, and concern for their future and what type of person they will turn out to be; hitting a child is done in anger and with harm in mind. Spanking might hurt, but it doesn't harm.

We are so slack on our kids now a days, no wonder things are such a mess, some of the parents need a spanking, punk parents, afraid to disciple a child, who's wearing the pants in the house?

I loathe corporal punishment, but "TOUGH LOVE" may be needed some day!

If my son insisted in running into traffic, in front of fast moving cars, he might die, thinking nothing can ever happen to him.

I would not use a rod...but I'd give him a little pop on the butt, to make him think twice about such dangerous dissobedience, with the loving intention to save his life.

I don't like using a rod, but the situation might arise if the child risks killing others by his thoughtless behaviour.

God said "if your eye offends you, pluck it out." I think that was not to be taken literally, or two sins and you'd be blind.

But symbolicly God is saying "some sins kill, and a spanking only hurts for a while". Do not be dogmatic, spank or refrain from spanking out of love!

God judges the heart. If yu spoil your child, and he ends up in eternal hell fire, you should not pat yourself on the back because you let him be bad rather than use "tough love".

If you spoil a caterpiller, in a cocoon, but cutting it free, it falls to the ground and never flies. In fact, you have killed it. It needed to strain hard, to bust out of its cocoon, in order to have the strong wings of a butterfly, to fly safely away.

Do not spoil your child. One spoiled child will ruin many piers, like a spoiled apple spoils the whole barrell.

If you insist on never spanking, you may do more harm than good, like Dr Spock who popularized the concept, then han a spoiled grandson commit suicide.

Yes, because its NOT just a saying , but wisdom from God in how to raise a child. Spare the rod and spoil the child...God deals in FACTS.

Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Good old fashioned discipline never hurt anyone.

No I've seen what a rod, or bat or pipe can do to a child. I see no good outcome from beating a child with a weapon. An open handed smack on the bottom maybe but not a weapon.

For you should train your child in the way he or she goes and when they are older they will not turn from it,and discipline is called for you can not give your child everything that they want, just what they need they need to learn the value of things and morals values and character,a child not trained wil go every which way and do what they want and that is devastating consquences God bless Lisa

Yes. The rod was removed from the hand of most parents approximately 50 years ago. Look at the state of children now.
How many school killings, children raping children, and children commiting capital crimes does it take to see the truth.

If it literally means to beat the child, no, I don't believe in it. But if it's a metaphor for "control the child," I do believe it it. Why? Because children who grow up under firm parental control are happier -- and become happier adults -- than children who are allowed to raise themselves.

I believe this saying because it is true. It is the Word of God. Also if you look at the children of today, you will see that a lack of discipline is the root of all kinds of problems.
Children need discipline and caring to grow into wonderful men and women. Without discipline they will grow up to be unruly and have no respect for one another.
