My firends grandmother who is only 60. is way too protective. She also is doing most of the raising of these two grandsons of hers. The mother (her daughter) and father (they are divorced) are still very active but circumstnances too detailed to get into here keep them mostly with the grandma. Its not that I think for one minute that anything innappropriate is going on. She still thinks as them as little babies at 9 and 8!
I think its not right! I think they should have their own beds. She says they like it and its ok with her.
Am I wrong?

THese two boys are very secure and loved They have no bad issues to deal with. I believe its mostly her hanging on way to tight. Her daughter has talked to me about how her mom likes it when people mistake her for their mom . I think she thinks it sometimes too.

I don't think children should ever sleep in their parents' bed. Maybe a baby can sleep next to momma as a newborn, so she can sleep while the baby feeds. But, I always thought it was kind of weird that parents would let their kids sleep in their beds with them.

Also, not to make judgment on your friend's grandmother, but what do you think people would make of a 60-year-old grandfather sleeping with his 8 and 9 year old grand daughters?

No, you are not wrong. It's time for the children to go to their own beds now. The children may like it but it's time it to stop. There's nothing wrong with the children watching tv in grandma's bedroom but afterwards, they need to go to their own bed. I'm a little concerned that the grandmother thinks it's all right for the children to sleep with her.

If things are so bad they cant be with their parents they may not emotionally be 9 & 8 and this makes nights easier. They may have stress seperation issues that make sleeping apart a huge fear for them. In general its probably not a huge deal. My son and I still share a bed b/c I don't have a real mattress(just plywood w/ 2 of those mattress pads on it) and hurt my back, and I know a guy whose children all still sleep in his and his wifes room and the oldest is 13 he sleeps in a recliner in the corner. Before the world was over run w/ freaks families often slept 10 to a room.

I agree with billie b. Americans see a pervert under every rock--sometimes with good reason. Latin countries, which are much more family-oriented than we are, still sleep several to a bed in poor communities. In fact, if a grandmother lives alone, one of her grandchildren is often sent to live with her. Not in the U.S.!

at 10 and 11 it gets iffy, but 8-9 not a issue

Other than when they are sick or taking a nap, about 6 months max. Children should have their own beds.

I like to sleep with my grandma and I'm 17. I just love her that much, and I only see her once or twice in two years, so I miss her. She tells me stories :)
