Don't get rid of the cat just because it bit your girlfriend. The cat was just spooked by your girlfriend pounding on the glass.

Do you break up a dogfight by wading in and lifting one of the dogs out of it? No. Banging on the window next to the cat was about as smart, sorry to say, but it was NOT the cat's fault. They were in battle mode and thought another cat was attacking from behind, of COURSE it turned and bit.
Make sure the girlfriend cleaned the wound well, and if it stays hot to the touch or gets puffed up and painful go get a shot to take care of the bacteria (all clinics give antibiotics for animal bites). This will take care of the wound within a day or two.
The cat isn't to blame. Every owner does something stupid once in a while, and this was your girlfriend's error. She's not holding it against the cat and neither should you.

My cat has chased a girl off before. I'm smart enough not to ask a girlfriend to watch her now. I feel bad because to get rid of the cat would be a death sentance. She loves me, but is picky about other people. My latest girlfriend was bit first time she and I watched a movie together. I got up and chased that cat down the hall and gave it the cold shoulder for a couple days. I think the cat gets that she is not top cat on the totem pole now. She better, cause no one else is going to put up with her.
Your cat situation sounds a little less severe than mine and I can't see destroying the cat for it. If it happens when the cat isn't spooked or provoked maybe look for a new home for it then.

I'm not sure what word I would use to describe her behavior... abusive, or just mean, or whatever... but I think it's absolutely wrong that she's treating the cat that way. I understand a certain level of roughhousing with the cat is good, but this is way beyond that. The hissing, putting her in the litter box, holding her legs up when she eats - those are all really horrible, stupid, mean things to do to a cat. She obviously doesn't care about treating animals well. I would go off on her for what she's doing. You may have to take the cat back to the shelter if you are going to keep the girlfriend. It's just not cool.

Squeeze it so the blood comes out if it punctured the skin. Don't stop it from bleeding by covering it. You want the germs to come out. Use peroxide to clean it after bleeding stops. It might be a good idea, if its deep to tell her to go to the Doctor and make sure her tetanus shot is UTD. Let him check it. The biggest problem with cat bites (besides rabies if let outside without their shots) is blood poisoning. This can be dangerous. If the bite was superficial just watch it and if it gets red or she feels bad in the next couple of days go to the hospital immediately.
Now for the cat. She was attacked by a cat not in its right mind because it was mentally fighting the stray and meant no harm to your girlfriend. Its not the same thing as a vicious cat who bites for no good reason. Its sort of like getting yourself in the middle of a dog fight. Not too bright to do huh? Best to get the stray to leave if you can. If your cat does it again try a product called Feliway which helps calm cats. It comes in a diffuser. If that doesn't work you can try giving the cat medication from the Vet but thats only if it happens alot. When the cat is in this mode do not go near it! You are seeing displaced aggressive behavior. Stay away from your cat and instead try to shoo the stray with a hose. Im assuming your cat is fixed also. If not get it done because that can lead to this behavior as well.
Your cat is not vicious. Even the nicest dogs will bite the owner if they get between them and another dog when they are in fighting mode.

I had an experience like that once. I came home and jumped next to my cat, and it clawed at my face... I was only like 4, and I still have this scar on my face cuz of it. Little biitch... haha, but yeah.... My mom threw the cat out right after, so I guess you two think the same way... I on the otherhand, was hella sad cuz it didnt know better... but if you've only had the cat for a little bit, i'd say find it a new owner.. but if you & the cat are hella tight together, then maybe you should just teach it a little lesson :]

one major thing about cats is that you should never interfere with them when they are fighting or play fighting with other cats. your cat probably saw your girlfriend's arm moving toward her and went after it. this is a natural reflex for cats and by no means should you get rid of the cat because of it. keep in mind that although cats are domesticated, they still have their natural hunting instincts somewhere inside of them. give the poor kitty a second chance and use it to make your relationship with you cat stronger. the worst that would come out of this is that your cat will turn extremely mean if you start stop showing her the same amount of affection and attention as you normally do.
best of luck

Your girlfriend is 100% right, she spooked the cat, the cat bit her and she's forgiven the cat - keep your beak out ha ha. Seriously though, your cat didn't mean to bite your girlfriend, it was an accident, she knows this bless her and alls forgotten, you do the same eh? x

Cats are animals and they react to certain situations, if you think you will ever own a cat and not get bitten or scratched a few times, you are nuts. This was a situation were the cat wasn't even aware of your girlfriend, it was fixated on the other cat and was running on pure adrenaline and instinct!
Its like sticking your arm in the middle of a dog fight and getting bit, and blaming the dog!
Duh!
i think your girlfriend should get rid of you.

Don't get rid of the cat, just make sure the cat is okay and be more careful when you approach your cat, don't walk behind her and pet her back. Approach her from the front.
