Jonathan, even though this expression is not meant to be literal, the longer I know the Lord, the more detestable sin seems to be, mine as well as others. Just think of the last time you heard of a really heinous crime or some senseless wrong done to an innocent child - if that isn't hideously ugly, what is? There are some people who are unfortunate in their appearance, but no one is as ugly as sin!

Considering 'sin' means to misunderstand or 'miss the mark'
I suppose the person who coined this phrase could be sinning in misunderstanding that all of creation is beautiful and ugly is a standard set up and imbedded by our cultural environments, so no, I don't believe it, but I have my biases.
Also there is another statement that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and also that one man's junk is another man's treasure, so I think that it could be said that what one thinks is as ugly as sin could be thought of by someone else to be the most blindingly beautiful.
The innocent see only beauty everywhere.
Beautiful Q Thx :)

No and yes. If a person is a sinner they are indeed as ugly as their sin, but sin is so horrible that God will not tolerate it in his perfect realm. Sadly many truths of God's law have been trivialized and I am guilty of it as well. Telling someone to go to.... If we really thought about it we would not wish it upon even Hitler.

Whoever made it up must really see sin as an ugly thing. Sin is actually ugly because its source is satan.
One person wrote
"Something that is so disgustingly hideous it is comparable to sin itself, not necessarily physically ugly, something so disturbingly ugly it makes your stomach churn."
This is quite cliche

No. Sin doesn't have a face. It's an action(verb). An act that violates a moral rule, or the state of having committed such a violation.
Commonly, the moral code of conduct is decreed by a divine entity (such as God).

Nothing is as ugly as sin. It cost God the life of His dear Son.

No off course not. The way we are conditioned to think in our society makes people judge each other espically physically. The person on the outside might look beautifull, but the person on the inside could very well be the one that is the best type of person you will ever know!
