yea just want to inform everyone that answered this question that my friend flew up to canada today from the states and was held at immigration and sent back to the states. so for future reference to all, if you have ever been arrested in your life, dont try to come to canada!

it really depends on the nature of the crime that they were convicted of http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/faq-inadmissibility.asp
this is info stating the FAQs of this question... but I suggest that they need to basically talk to a consulate before they attempt to enter Canada... to make sure the type of record they have will permit them to enter.

The one thing I know for sure is those convicted of rape can't come in, there have been athletes denied entry into Canada for that reason... this was for an AHL hockey game.

Visiting is not immigration. Canada does not ban people from visiting as long as you have proper documents
