...3 days and was then on the earth for 40 days after the resurrection (Acts 1:3). From the Passover until Pentecost is 50 days (Pente- means 50). So only about a week transpired between Jesus commission and Peter’s sermon on Pentecost."

I think that would be about right. The disciples were hiding out in the upper room, scared because Jesus had died and then left them, and not knowing what to do with themselves. When the Spirit came at Pentecost they became bold and went out preaching, which they hadn't dared to do before.

You couldn't hide for very long, and if nothing much had happened, they probably would've quietly gone back to their old lives as fishermen etc.

good question, no longer many Christians understand this one, yet they could. After pondering this question and starting to be a member of an Hebraic group. I found out that Jesus did no longer die on a Friday, like a lot of people have been taught. He died on a Thursday, throughout the Passover. The very next day is call the dinner occasion of Unlevened Bread. it relatively is between the three severe Holy Days interior the Jewish 365 days. meaning that despite the fact that day it falls on, it relatively is seen a Sabath Day. So it is the way it occurred. The Passover starts at sunset. Jesus eats the Passover meal along with his followers. he's arrested later that night and he's crucified the subsequent morning. he's lifeless and buried until eventually now sunset, it relatively is the start of Unlevened Bread, it relatively is Thursday night for us. Jesus is lifeless for 3 days and nights, and then God raised Him from the lifeless on Sunday Morning. i believe that Jesus will fulfill the fall Feasts at His 2nd coming.

Kinda makes you wonder what happened to change Peter from the coward that cursed at the servant girl into the unafraid, unashamed powerful speaker just a short time later.

All of the Apostles somehow changed from frightened and weak into bold and willing to die for the name of Jesus Christ.

Hum... Maybe seeing the risen Christ can have that effect on a person.

edit -- Uh... truthbox, the "swoon theory" is complete and utter codswallop. If you knew anything about the act of crucifixion, you would not even bother to post such oft debunked nonsense.

The way I was always taught is that Jesus died on the cross, was dead for three days, and the rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Jesus did appear to the disciples after his death throughout the fifty days leading up to pentacost. Then on pentacost he gave the disciples the power of the holy spirit to do his work on Earth. At least that is what is in the gospels in the New Testament.

Yes. He was crucified after the passover and, after three days, rose again for 40 days. In that time, he gathered his disciples together and sent the Holy Spirit into their hearts, making them the fruit of the earth, for them to spread the Word. :]

There is the story about Jesus not dying when crucified, but was near death, and taken down to be dead. This was foretold, and prepared for --- so that he could be revived, ie. resucitated. He slowly recovered, and left for India, with his mother Mary. Mary died en route, being old and fragile. Jesus settled in Kashmir, marrying and having a family, dying of old age.

That's about right. The disciples, apostles, and others were spending much time in prayer, according to Acts 1 and 2.

Nothing is so literal in the Bible. THere are common themes and one of them is the idea of 40. 40 days after the resurection, 40 days and 40 nights of the flood. 40 days of a fast. Any scholar will tell you the 40 means an ample time. The meaning is not lost.

Jesus died on the day that the passover lamb was killed. He took the place of the passover.
