It may work for you it worked for my "very picky" daughter at about that same age. We went to the store together, and we picked out stuff to make meat loaf, and I let her mix it up in the bowl with the eggs, meat and bread crumbs. She was so impressed with herself. She said this is my dinner and sat and ate every bite. I was like :O but it worked...

Just put the same thing everyone else is eating on his plate, and if he doesn't eat it, he doesn't get anything else. He'll start eating when he gets hungry. It might take a few days.

Why should you run yourself ragged just because he doesn't like eating what everyone else is eating? It's your house. You're in charge.

He has developed a taste for hot dogs. THey are full of flavouring additives and preservatives, and are no good for him.

Just tell him either he eats what he is given, or he gets nothing. There are people who go to bed hungry every night because they have no food. How dare he turn his nose up at what you have prepared.

Stick to your guns. If you follow through on this he will be eating a more balanced diet and not just hot dogs, which are hardly a dietary staple. You owe it to his good health to hold your ground. Good luck.
I hear ya. I'm in the same boat. What we've been doing, and it seems to work is to stop buying what they want, in your case it would be hot dogs. We had to stop buying chicken nuggets and pizza, because that's all my 7 year old would eat.

Also, when we make something, such as pork chops, mashed potatoes, and corn; and he refuses to eat, we tell him that's all he'll get that night. And we leave that plate on the table. If say at 7:30, he says he's hungry, we'll heat it up, but that's it. Nothing else. It's feels terrible that he refuses to eat, and seems like we're harsh, horrible parents for not making him something else, but hey, there are LITERALLY starving children in other parts of the world that would LOVE that particular meal.

First make sure his body is not adverse to eating meat. I have
know a number of people who cannot take regular meat. Crazy I know but it's true.
I forget the medical term. Sometimes they can take some meats and not others.
If your son is not alergic to meat, then just go down the line with the different meats and prepare each one two or three ways and see what he prefers and is able to tolerate.
Start with ground beef, both lean and fat.
Then with pork.
Then chix
Then Gobble Gobble.
The maybe some spring lamb.
Then different types of fish.

Sauce. You can take your shoes, cut them up and cook them, and if you prepare them with a great tasting sauce, they're delicious. ( you know that I'm joking). Kids usually like sweet sauces so experiment and see what he likes and then add a little meat. Before you'll know it, he'll forget about the hot dogs.

My husband said to hide the meat in something. Like he'd make a creamed tuna thing for his sons and serve it over toast. If it was hidden well enough, they never noticed.
