Mine were the teenage years. Social, mental and emotional isolation - you are neither a kid nor an adult. You have to start being independent and that pressures you to study and get good grades. A lot of family and relationship problems.

I guess it was when I found out that my father was told he has colon cancer. It brought to the forefront of my life how fragile and how fast life can turn from happiness to depression.

My teenage years when parents divorced. Mom lost control and since I was 16 we have been estranged and I haven't had any contact with her. I was 16 when I felt abandoned and alone. That was the most difficult phase of my life. Makes me sad just thinking about it. I was in runaway homes, sleeping around, drinking. It was a hard time. I wasn't pushed to be concerned with grades, school, future. I was only trying to find comfort and stability. Very, very difficult time. Don't know how I lived through it. I'm one of the lucky ones who did.

I'd have to go with middle school, when I was 13 or 14. Hormones are running through you like wildfire. You feel awkward because you just went through puberty, so you feel next to no confidence.

You're not really considered a kid, but you're not in high school yet, where adults start taking you seriously. Girls and boys start really noticing each other, which causes even more worries. Not to mention that middle school is typically the first time you start "going to classes". In grade school, you typically had one class, one teacher. In middle school, many classes, many teachers.
