Yes.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, God the Son.

The angel said to them,

"Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

(Luke 2:10-14)

With love in Christ.

I agree that the true meaning of Christmas is about the birth of Jesus. It doesn't matter that He probably wasn't born in December-the holiday fits well in the darkest part of the winter so that's where it was put. What matters is that we take time to acknowledge that Jesus was born miraculously in humble surroundings and that his purpose was to save His people. The wisemen weren't told by an angel-they followed a star. The shepherds were told by an angel to go visit the Baby and then tell others. But those details aren't as important as the FACT that God became a man on that day and He did it for you and me..

Jesus wasn't born anywhere around Christmas. Christmas and all the traditions associated with it date back to Paganism before Christianity. December 25th was known in ancient times as the winter solstice. The tree, Santa, and the gift giving are all part of that Paganistic tradition. Somewhere around the fifth century AD (not sure if the time is right) the Roman Emperor Constantine (who was Pagan) integrated the birth of Jesus into the holiday to satisfy the alarming outcries of the Christians AGAINST the holiday. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Its about getting together with the family and giving each other presents and feasting and making merry around the shortest dreariest days of the year brightening life up and keeping us going until the green shoots herald the start of spring.

Well sure, that is the story of Christ's birth, which we should definitely be reminded of- and it's fun hearing it sometimes- but the true meaning of Christmas is hope. The birth of Christ gave hope.
