Shanghai is a very modern city in and the financial hub of China. It's really not much different from New York or Sydney except that the Chinese spits everywhere, don't queue and talk loudly on their cell phones!!

Looks great at night! During the day it is a filthy place inhabited mostly by mucus hacking smokers who don't like Wai guo ren (that's you), cars will run you down on crossings even if you have a green light. The smells of effluent will knock you over and you will have to wade through the rubbish that the locals casually throw on the street as they walk on by.
