Looking back over the years, I could probably think of times when it felt as though my younger brother was keeping the rest of my family in line....or at least trying to....is this unusual?

Not at all! I am the youngest of two, and I'm constantly keeping the peace in the family. Trust me it's a full time job being the youngest. So do something nice for your brother, take the reins a little. Give him a little break from all the refereeing he has to do. And let him know you appreciate all he does. I wish some one would do that for me every now and again! Kudoes to your brother, the keeper of the family!

It doesn't sound unusual to me... I am the youngest of a sort of dysfunctional family.
In "normal" families there are several different hierarchies amongst siblings, it really just depends upon the family and the kids and parents.

Oddly enough I find that also to be true.
Our youngest sister has the sensible
head and therefore she is in charge of
my parents estate, for when the time
happens. The youngest usually has
the insight of how all the others react.

The youngest in my family is and has been nothing but trouble. He was always called and treated like the baby and he still acts like one to this day!

The baby of the family is usually the peace keeper if that's what you mean. I'm the baby of 4, and I'm always playing the intermediary.

I've always tried to keep the peace.
I'm always the go to person. I'm the baby.
It's a lot of work.
