Normal = my parents used to spend about $500 on me plus my grandparents where real generious. I have so far spent $80 and got 8 gifts for my 6 yr old, my husband says its enough but I'm unsure?! I have only bought my 16months old 2 toys for total of $20! I'm going on my last shopping trip and was just wondering what everyone else that was normal!

Depends on your finacial situation. I don't think going over board at Christmas is ever a good thing. Especially if you have Grand-parents and other family members who buy them things also.
I say 2-3 nice, big presents (from Santa) is wonderful. Maybe some small things too...and of course the stockings. :)

When my two oldest were around that age(my daughter was 6 and my son was 3) I usually spent $350 a person. That is how it is today and my kids are 12, 10, 5 and 8 months old, except sometimes I might go over another hundred.

This year I spent around $450 a person(not including my 8 month old which I bought just a few clothes and toys and then stocking stuffers which averaged around $150.). I'm a single parent and they get so much from relatives I figure that is a good amount.

My daughter has just turned 1 (in November), so she has just had alot of gifts given to her. My husband and I decided before she was born that we would alternate years. This year he chose her a birthday present, and I have chosen her Christmas present (from Santa). Next year, he will choose Christmas, and I will choose birthday. At the moment, we are a single income family, and so I have been popping little things away for a while (little books etc. for her stocking). When I was little, Santa bought toys, games, books etc., and our parents gave us a new outfit to wear on Christmas Day. I have spoken to my MIL, and when my husband and his sister were little, she did the same thing.
We have chosen not to put a monetry amount on our gifts, but my daughter is getting 1 big present (a doll and doll pram) from Santa and clothes from us. Our families know what Santa is bringing, and my dad and his partner are giving her a home-made doll cradle and bedding. I do believe that a child can get spoilt, and after all, Christmas isn't supposed to be about who gets the biggest present, or who is richer. If I were you I would try to start putting a realistic limit on Christmas now, otherwise in a few years you may have some sibling rivalry on your hands.

Merry Christmas. :)

We spend around $100 per child, but mine are 11, 8, and 4. I get one large present (money wise or size) from us and a few little things plus stocking stuffers. Then "santa" tries to spen around $20 -25 each. When my girls were younger, I would spend like $50 on them because they did not need many things. When I was a single parent and they were 3.5 and 1 month old, I only had about $50 for both, so the 3yr old got about $30 and the baby got the rest.

My daughter is going to be 3 and I'm getting her a bunch of little items that she wants. I think I'll probably spend somewhere around $30-40 on her. Her grandparents are spending a lot more than that so I'm not worried about her not having enough gifts.

Forget Normal.
What is the message you want to give your kids about Christmas? You should try to set a precendent now for what you want to and can afford to continue from now on. I recommend a few items for each child that they need or would really appreciate, a set amount going into a college savings account or savings bond, and then the whole family going shopping together for someone in need. Our church has a "giving tree" which has the names of senior citizens who will not be receiving gifts. We take a name and spend about $20 on bath powder, slipper sox, candy or whatever. The kids help shop, wrap and deliver. Now THAT'S what you want them to learn about Christmas.

ive spent about $300 on my 2 kids aged 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. My mom has also spent around that much for them too. So ive spent about $150 per child. But all together they have about $600 spent on them.

"normal" is what is normal to you. I was reading the paper here in Australia and there were people saying that they spend AU$500 on each of their kids... I personally think that is INSANE!!
I think one "big" present a few little ones and some stocking fillers is fine. I think younger children tend to like lots of little presents regardless of what they are because the excitement is in opening the presents.
To me, teaching kids about the spirit of Christmas rather than Christmas is about gettin stuff is more important them spending huge amounts of money on them
