So I'm going to buy a Christmas goose, turkey, or duck from a 4H youth. I've heard that home-raised meat is superior to store bought. Anyone ever try 4H raised beef, rabbit, poultry, pork, etc? And what did you think? I can't wait to cook it.

Dogs aren't people. They are much better adapted to eating diets high in bacteria, which is a good thing considering that dry dog food is actually a great habitat for bacterial growth. You also have to realize that not everything a dog would eat in the wild is fresh. Packs bring down large prey fairly regularly, which they can't always eat at one "sitting". I have a book from only about 35 years ago, which gives two possible options for feeding dogs. One is a combination of raw muscle meat and bones and cooked offal, and the other is commercial food. Only 35 years ago, feeding raw meat was no big deal! You won't convincing me that dogs have evolved into a creature that will keel over and die if fed anything raw over the course of just three and a half decades. Fresh meat, obviously, is much better than grocery store meat. Still, if someone who wishes to feed raw can't get fresh meat, grocery store meat is perfectly fine. Dogs aren't little people; if someone wants to feed raw, they should. If you aren't comfortable with raw, don't feed it! No one's forcing you. add: "Eye", can you explain to me how feeding meat that isn't organic to a dog is pumping him full of steroids, antibiotics etc., but feeding dog food which has the same steroid- and antibiotic-filled meat in cooked form is fine? I know most raw feeders can't afford organic meat, but not everyone can afford organic kibble, and most who can, don't bother. Also, all of these studies that "prove" raw is inferior... why don't you share them with us?

I grew up eating the meat I raised when I was in 4-H and it always tasted better than store bought.

You will find it to be superior to all but the very most expensive hard to get premium meat out there. 4-H, FFA people feed their animals a better diet and give them better care than commercial operations. The animals are raised to be judged or graded, not just for profit.

The 4-H is 100% better than store bought. I would buy 4-H over products in our stores.
You WILL be pleased.
