I getting this tiger costume for my cat. My mum really loves tiger cubs you see, and keeps joking she wants one for christmas... So me and my sister are going to dress our cat in it on Christmas day and surprise our mum as a joke... Yes, I know it's really daft, lol.
But is it 'ok' to dress your pets up in these? I've heard a lot of people say it's cruel to dress your pets. It would only be for the one day. Do animals get stressed easily over this kind of thing?

cats especially can get stressed out very easily- it depends on the nature of your car, if its easily very docile, doesnt bat an eyelid at small children type then you should be ok- but I cant swear to that!
cats are very teratorial and very private animals, if you dress it in something and cover its entire body, they may read this as an intrusion, they may feel angry with you or worse feel worried and not knowing whats going on- especially if there is a loud commotion when everyone sees the cat and gasps, the cat could easily become scared and not being able to control itself in the same way (I'd hazard a guess at the cat being in some way less able t run or at least run with the same speed) and the cat could become upset.
You cant say to a cat "it was only a joke" it may wonder what its done wrong or read this as an invasion of privacy and if the cat is timid anyway it could send him/her off packing!
Its up to you really how far you think you can push it, but in my experience, cats will always bear grudges!

It really depends on the animal. Most cats that I have known, including the two that I have now, woudl pitch a fit if I tried to put them into any kind of costume.
I guess you can try it, but if the cat even shows the least bit of resistance to being dressed up, I wouldn't force it. Dogs are more adaptable to costumes than cats are.
I don't know if dressing up animals is cruel, I tend to think it is kind of dumb.

Yeah it should be ok only for a little while as long as its not tight on its body that wouldnt be very nice and nothing on its head or face that would be cruel Cats dont like their faces being covered usually. Saying that my cat loves nothing better than having a pile of sheets or clothes thrown over her (very unusual for a cat) and will stay there for hours and hours purring away.
Buries herself under the duvet at night too !!

NO, Its not cute or funny and if you love your cat you would not even be thinking of doing such a thing. How would you like it if someone dressed you up and had everyone laughing at you??? The poor cat will be distressed and very scared. GROW UP!!!

Ok that is really cute! Just try the costume on before the big day. If the cat flips out then don't put him through it. Maybe just try on one piece of the outfit at a time until he gets used to it. Very cute costume. Good luck.

Of course she will get stressed. Cats are not dolls they are living creatures and should not be made fun of. Get your Mum a stuffed toy tiger cub instead.

It really depends on the personality of the cat. But yes most of them hate it lol. I would let wear it for 30 min or an hour so but not really a whole day.

Why the bloody hell go to the expense and messing about with your cat, just to make your mum laugh? Get her a toy tiger.

Why not buy a Toyger....
Do a search on the web, and you will find it is a very large cat that has similarities of a Tiger...
A lot look mainly like tabby's, but I have seen a few that are very Tiger like... and big! did I say they were big !!!

Wow, lol.
Well ppl dress their dogs up so I don't see why not. Cats though aren't as people-oriented as dogs so be careful with her claws!
But as a "joke" to your mom, I'm sure a few minutes in a tiger costume won't hurt your cat. Try to buy her some of her favorite treats, and feed her a few after you get her into it, even if its bit/bit. Paws in? Treat, Head in? Another treat...etc, etc.
