I graduate next semester with a degree in history. My applications for grad school are in and I am waiting to see where I get accepted. I'll end up with a PhD, no real certainty of a job and, if I do get a faculty position, crap pay.
Why do I do it? Because I love history and I want access to the resources to fuel that. If you don't have the same feelings it might be best to switch majors and keep history as a hobby.
With an undergrad in history there are few jobs...
Then again, there is always law school. It doesn't really matter what field.

Doing research for museums, for writers, for tv networks (like - oh say the History Channel). People who know history and can work in those channels can work as archivists, helping to file and catalogue - business organizations often hire people with experience to put together their own histories. And many businesses like people with a history background for other work that is not necessarily pure history. It's a good major - and there are always ways to make money doing what you like.

I think it is best to go with something you are interested in. You shouldn't go into a career just for the money. You will be at your job a large portion of your life. Do something you really enjoy. As for history, most people I know with that major go into teaching. You could contact the history dept at your school and find out what other kind of jobs there are for history majors.

I know a lot of history majors go onto become editors for popular journals, military officers, analysts, teachers, lawyers.. Really, it depends on your connections and what you've done in the past.
I guess for law, personal injury lawyers make a pretty penny
