I live in a temperate one but this last week it has been a cold one. This weekend I had planned to drive 300 miles to go home but they are predicting a major snow and icestorm so I may be marooned here till the roads are cleaned. Tropical country would be good about now.

I live in a sub-tropical country and while it is lovely to keep warm all the year round and not to have to bother to wrap up all the time or to demist one's car, there are other things which are not so good, such as hurricanes and tropical storms and insects. I think that the coldest country in which I have lived is Switzerland and I enjoyed the snow, the cosiness of eating a fondue or munching roasted chestnuts in the street and feeling warm and snug indoors. I think that the Continental climate is ideal -- warm in summer and cold in winter, with spring and autumn to add interest. In a tropical country the vegetation is the same the year round, but in a cooler country there is infinite variety and people look forward to things being in season. The trouble is, I enjoy both!
