This is a paraphrasing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's observation:

If you believe in an afterlife, the death penalty is merely an advancement of your travel to an inevitable destination. God will judge someone's soul ultimately, so the death penalty is not "final." But for a non-believer, the death penalty is final, and therefor a horrible atrocity.

Curiously, in explaining why he supports the death penalty, he also explained why I oppose it.

They are also linked with other religions in common moral denominators (honor parents, etc,) but critically differ in other respects. In the Bible capital punishment requires 2 or 3 witnesses, and a false witness must suffer the punishment that his false testimony caused! That would make law enforcement more careful today.

And while the Quran supports universal religious violence when threatened (define as they may), no Christian can ever kill in seeking to defend or escape the faith if acting consistent with the New Testament. Nor were Old Testament laws violence universal, but limited to a certain people and or place.

And as one must be saved, there is the greatest difference, between one who taught to take others lives, and One who gave himself for us, that those that truly repent and believe may know real life, and salvation.

(Acts 3:19) "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;"

I don't know about Islam but Christianity isn't. The Old Covenant in the Old Testament is linked but not Christianity. Jesus talked about loving your enemies and turning the other cheek. I'm not saying all Christians are against capital punishment but certainly not all are for it, either.

Because they're both wrong about their own religions in the same way.

I mean, in Islam, there isn't even a permanent hell. Allah is all merciful and allows all souls into heaven. Where do they get their model for capital punishment? Crazy/charismatic cult leaders.
