I've seen chakras represented by a certain number of petals AND by a circle with spokes..

Whats the difference?

So a wheel with a certain number of spokes represent the same as the lotus with a certain number of petals?
right...?

the difference in the number of petals would depict how fast the chakra resonates
for instance ... the less petals , the slower speed
working on chakras is not only about them opening up , but having them running smoothly and at the right speed

edit
that is why sound and colour are used in chakra meditations
both sound and colour resonate on different frequencies

edit
yes the lotus is just used to represent the chakras
the chakras are said to appear like a flower
the wheel with the spokes is just a different representation of the same thing

edit
Peter there are energy points in our body , they do resonate at different speeds .... that is a fact
you may not be comfortable with the term chakras ... but call it what you will , it doesnt change the fact
our body is energy

The difference is one person's imagination sees these fabrications as spokes and someone else invented a totally different magical representation of them.

Considering the evidence supporting the existence of chakras (i.e. none), both are equally valid.
