There are different levels of belief. Some seem absolute- like two plus two equal absolutely four, never five, never three and a half. That's one kind. Another kind is what you've experienced all your life- every day the sun rises. Yep. it has every day *I* have been alive (or from what I can remember).
Sometimes you believe what others tell you because you have faith in them. Your mom tells you that you got your first tooth at six months. Do you have any personal memories? Nope. But you believe you did. Is it possible your tooth was really there when you were five months? Sure. Your mom *could* be wrong- she's only human. This is a slightly different level of belief.
Do you believe anything from before you remember it? Well, you can have quite a bit of faith in written history, geological records of events thousands of years ago. Did you or your mom see Kaiser Wilhelm make war? No. But do you believe WW! happened? I think it did, too. Why? Because your mom knew someone who was there and she's told you. Confidence in her, and her confidence in this other person still create quite a level of confidence in you. Belief in WWI is pretty secure.
Do you have any scientific or historical records that affirm or dispute the afterlife? Well, now we're into individual mythology or collective mythology area. Can 20,000,000 Frenchmen be wrong?
I've gone the philosophical route for the existence of God. And though the arguments are heavy in logic, they're light from my personal experience.
Thus, I'd like to believe in an afterlife, but I think it boils down to "I'll have to wait and see."
With that, let me add that I've observed some organized religions use the afterlife as a way to modify my behavior. "Do this, or you'll suffer in the afterlife; do that and you'll benefit in the afterlife." Perhaps the behavior modification is worthwhile. But the comparison with this-worldly behaviors leaves me doubting.
Thus, I'll behave in what I believe is a moral way. If this should one day benefit me in the afterlife, good. If there is no afterlife, then that's OK because I've lived the way I think is best.
Short answer- I don't know.
Longer answer- I don't think there's anyone around who can *definitevely* give me an answer in either direction
Good question. Thanks.

No! And neither do any true Christians.
The scriptures clearly state: that 'the dead are conscious of nothing at all' Eccl: 9:5, and that 'from dust you are and to dust you will return' so, the dead are out of existence, not living anymore, not in hell and not conscious of anything.
Hell is a god dishonouring doctrine, taught by those same "christians" that believe in a freakish trinity!
God said to our original parents if they disobeyed him "you will positively die". and that is just what we see all around us and throughout history. Satan contradicted and said: "you positively will NOT die" since it IS clear we do die, so called "christians" continue to teach this same lie but slightly modified now, 'oh you die, but then there is this 'after life' thingy' 'so you positively will NOT die' - Hmmm... just like the original liar! LOL
Sorry, when a person dies he is unconscious and has gone back to the dust. There is a hope, but that's for another answer.
