For the record, I'm not religious, nor am I "complaining"

I'm just pointing out an observation of mine.

Well, think about this one. We are on a website that requires us to write in English. All English speaking nations that I know of are overwhelmingly Christian. Those who are most comfortable writing in English have mostly grown up around Christianity.

Christianity is not only the most popular religion in the world, it is the religion OF the most powerful. We live in democratic countries where it is important that the people make informed decisions. And we know that what people do affects us all.

Christians try to pass laws that affect us all - such as eliminating abortion; or having their religion enshrined in our documents, and buildings; restricting the rights of gays; and trying to put religion in our schools.

Look also at President Bush... the man said he was told by God to invade Iraq. Apocalyptic Christians may be all to happy for the next nuclear war to come along (do we really want them in charge of our weapons?).

The truth is, Christians affect us the most so it is them we wish to educate.

If you wish to know more about the damage that religion causes, I suggest you read "The End of Faith," and "Letter to a Christian Nation" by Sam Harris as well as "God is not Great: How Religion Poisions Everything" by Christopher Hitchens.

Many people feel hateful towards Christianity because of the huge amount of hate that comes out of it. The slave trade which saw black people subjugated and is largely responsible for the prevailing racist attitudes which continue in our society is something that happened because of the way the bible condones slavery. Homophobia. Sexism and subjugation of women who are not given equal footing with men in the church hierarchies. The mysogyny of the bible and its sinister stories like the Adam and Eve creation myth where woman is the evil one who causes the downfall of man. The Christian preachers not only in Africa but also in first world cities like London today who have 'cleansing rooms' in their churches where they beat little children to protect their souls, and if illness comes to the family the prechers tell the parents that a child is a witch and these children are tortured, maimed and murdered in the name of jesus, the church and the bible. There was a photo report of this in the papers this week. One small girl's father had thrown acid in her face, another's has tied a rope around her ankles and hung her from a tree and left her. She was at the point of death when she was found five days later. One little boy had had his arm chopped with a machete by his father. many others were turned out onto the street. All of this was done at the advice of the preachers and done in the name of Jesus.

It is all this kind of thing that makes most educated people these days come to the conclusion that Christianity causes more evil than good in this world.

It is just modern life's greatest irony that an establishment that claims to act for good causes so much suffering.

If a God did exist he would never allow it.

The bible taught that religious hypocrisy was the worst of sins and that people should strip back all the edicts from uncaring religious leaders and live on simple principles of love and respect. This never happened and religion is 100 times worse today than it was in Jesus's time.

When you have the Pope- the most powerful religious leader in the world committing a racist genocide hundreds of times worse than the Nazi holocaust by preventing access to condoms as millions of people die from AIDS in Africa, and deliberatley trying to manufacture a two-tier society in which some people are born to have greater rights over others, by promoting a homophobic agenda and trying to block equality legislation, then you are seeing true evil at work.

People need a place to vent. When we are bombarded with "Freedom requires religion" and "54% of Americans would not vote for an otherwise qualified atheist candidate", you need somewhere to let it out.

For many of us, theism is absolutely absurd in this day and age. For society to see it as normal is incredibly frustrating.

I reserve my attacks for theism as a whole, I don't single any one sect out. I actually think the overall message of the New Testement is good. However, the vitriole that drips from the tounges of so many prominent Christians is so prominent in our culture that you must expect a backlash. The way all theistic religions conform to the ignorance and prejudice of the populace will create anger. In this age of the new enlightenment, get used to it.

Anti christian? Those are few and far in between, what you are complaining about are questions attacking christianism, which is just a set of ideas and rules and is perfectly acceptable to criticize it. Remember christianism is an ideology and nothing more, you shouldn't feel offended if it is attacked, do you get angry when someone attacks capitalism? i bet you don't.

At least with me, it is not hatred but a mistrust of many organized religion. It is the “agenda” thing, to change the whole world to believe alike. The whole world should believe the way (fill in any fundamentalist religion) do or you are terribly wrong.

im not hateful. quite the opposite. and its split about 50/50 on here for the questions.
and the reason there are so many anti religion questions on here is because....well the world is slowly waking up from the nightmare that is religion. waking up from its control. waking up from its fear.
people are starting to doubt it and ask questions.
i am not ... not trying to draw anger here......but the reality is that people here are asking religious people questions... that they cannot answer with any kind of solid basis.. other than... you have to believe.. or have faith. and really... that answer doesnt cut it today. not with evereything that is going on in the religious forums today... regardless of religion worshiped or its denomination.
religion is losing its grip on our minds..and our people

Because the majority of people calling themselves "Christians" are anything BUT.

They are small minded, hypocritical, judgemental, smug and hyper-critical.

Thank goodness I am of the OTHER type of Christian--the kind that base their life on the teachings of Christ....and not some money-hungry corrupt "church".
