I'm a sophmore right now, and I really want to go to ROTC... thing is... I don't know if I can make it. I had a freshman GPA of 3.7, and so far a 3.5 in my sophmore year. My other activites: run track, act, sing, violin, work out about twice a week, church youth group community service, study military tactics, blah blah blah. I'm not a terrible runner (5:30 Mile) and do a lot of cardio exercises, but I don't have much upper body strength. Any tips? Do I look like I have a chance? Thanks.

Looks like you've got a pretty solid base for getting in.

Work on your SAT prep. Take that one as early and as often as you like, since the AF will take your HIGHEST score on it.

Great run time. You'll also need to demonstrate ability to do pushups and sit-ups though. No worries, just train up a bit on it. AF Culture is workout minimum 3 times a week, so while it's not necessary to join ROTC, that's what I'd be doing personally.

Studying military tactics is... eh. They'll teach you what you need to know in that regards (and MUCH better than anything you can learn from civilian sources). I would devote my time to studying doctrine and theory of the different branches... meaning when you apply you'll know which ROTC you want and you'll be better able to articulate why your skills will match with the goals and vision of that particular branch of service.

Best of luck.

So long as you maintain a 3.3 (ish) GPA, do well on your SAT and ACT. The standard for the Army running wise is 15:53 to pass, 13:00 to max the test (2 miles). To max the push ups, it's 71 in two minutes, 78 sit ups in two minutes for sit ups. Keep up with the extra curriculars. Call up your recruiter and ask him about the 'split option' program. This will make you incredibly competitive for a four year scholarship, in fact, you can almost be guaranteed a spot. The split op program is where you go to basic training between your junior and senior year in high school, and advanced training the summer after you graduate.

If you have ANY more questions, just shoot me a email. I'd love to help.

It's not hard to enter a ROTC program. The competition is for the scholarships. As long as you can pass the PT test, you should be fine.

You will be fine.

Many have done it who started less prepared than you.

Just be willing to work, learn, and serve.
