You are better off getting a Baby Eagle, they come in .9mm, .45ACP, and .40, you can get them in metal or poly frames and in my opinion are 10 times the Gun I've owned 3 and still have 2(.9&.45). The cost about $400-$600, depending on how you want it! Taurus also makes a good pistol check out the 24/7, it comes in all three cal.s as well.and the price is about the same, I have a 24/7 in .9mm, and I have it's predicesor the Millinium in .9mm, I carry this weapon daily and does get some abuse, But after 5 yrs. it still has never failed me, and Taurus guns have an intergrated safty lock that lets moms have peice of mind(in case you have kids).
Para-Ordanance makes some great guns also, see if the store you shop at has a try-it-before-you-buy-it policy, I lived in Tucson AZ. for yrs and Jenson's had a range in the basement and, for a small fee, would let folks test fire guns to help them make their best choice.
I never been impressed by Glock, I think they are too chunky and bulky, But that's just my opinion. Check out all your options before you spend your cash.

best of luck.

long live the 2nd!!!

You say that you collect guns yet you come to Yahoo answers for advise on guns... Don't you know a gun store owner, other collectors, or a gun smith?

I don't know how many of these people know about weopons or what they know. Do they carry at work? Do they carry everywhere? What kind of clothing do they wear when they carry? Is it strictly for target? All these questions need to be answered...

If you seriously want a Glock for target... You need a G34(9mm) or G35(40cal) although I love Glocks and own 2 of them I would not use a Glock for target shooting. I carry them off duty. One is a 27 for inside the waist band. And one is a 23 w/ a TLR mounted for belt holster carry.

I also own a Sig 229 that I use for work.

I have a Berreta and a Taurus in a .357. I have own a Ruger .45 (P90) and Taurus PT 745. I have owned an AMT Hardballer long slide .45 which is a lower end target gun but has adjustable sights.

If you are serious about targets you should look at a Kimber. They are over your budget so find one used. A 1911 with adjustable sights is your best choice for a target gun. You should know that a long barrel with adjustable sights is the best if you trully are into rifles...

Alot of people like the XD... I really do not care for it. But that is me. Check it out for your self. And the Desert Eagle? What movie are these people in?

9mm is cheaper - Keep that in mind. You can practice more often.

And, I personally don't like Glock triggers. I have owned 4 over the years. I prefer the Walther P99 A/S.

Might wanna go to handgunforum.net - good advice there!

I've shot a Glock 40 and a 9mm several times and was overly unimpressed with both weapons.

Not to mention that I tore most of the skin off of my thumb from the slide the first time I shot one.

I have a S&W .45 and prefer it.

Go for the .40 it's a much better than the 9mm. The .40 is very popular now.

Honestly, I would get a Springfield XD pistol. That was my first and still the best one I have. Absolutely perfect. If I could only keep one pistol it would be the Springfield XD .40. The XD pistols are as reliable as it gets in a pistol I never get a jam, never. Even when it's dirty.

My second choice is my Dan Wesson .45 1911 pistol that cost three times as much as the Springfield XD. And I would keep the XD over the Dan Wesson believe it or not. The Dan Wesson is nice but will jam from time to time.

I would never buy a glock. I have had so many issues with them and they're not as invincible as everyone claims.

My recommendation Smith and Wesson M&P. Its a .40 and its one sweet gun

If you want a Glock, I particularly like the 17 and 32C--you should check them out at least.

Nobody can say what a good "look" or "feel", etc, is for you!

If you collect anything, and yet know nothing about some part of a given sub-type, then you need to research it at the library or bookstore, or consult friends who own such, or for visit a reputable dealer to try them for yourself, or to information.
