Has any atheist been burned at the steak, or head chopped off, or hung from a cross, or quartered, or boiled alive, or crushed by an elephant, or stoned to death, or thrown into a boiling oil, or torned to pieces by a beast for atheism?

A LOT of atheists have been killed in such ways because they were atheist.

However, they wouldn't voluntarily sacrifice themselves in the name of "atheism", (the same way a believer would do for their "God") because atheists don't feel there's going to be a reward in some afterlife for doing it.
There *have* been atheists who have died to stand up for their RIGHTS (and the rights of others) to believe what they wish. But it's their rights they gave their lives for, not their beliefs.

Bill Clinton was kind of beat up pretty bad by that woman; that Ms Lewinsky . . . But he pulled a slight trickery when he had the camera people from the 3-major Television Networks, all take pics of him and his "wife" coming out of church all the time . . . I mean, like, Dan Rather, for instance, liked to have had an orgasm over reporting him leaving church . . . But as far as him being run over by an elephant . . . NOT yet! It would be nice if his "wife" stepped out in front of the GOP herd soon though . . . That WOULD help.

Literally thousands upon thousands over the years. Atheism was considered the worst kind of curse by religious maniacs. The Dark Ages were particularly fun. Martyrdom is not the correct term for this though, mass genocide suits best

There's a club in Chicago called Martyr's. I think some atheist might hang out there.

During the middle ages many people were burned at the stake for non belief. In addition to that it is well documented that in the Islamic invasion of Europe of the 600's people were immediately beheaded for not believing in Allah.

oh, probably. just stands to reason. all it takes is one person with an opinion, another with a different oppinion, and one of those two people to not like the other opinion enough to want to end the other person's life. Silly, really. But happens more often than not. ;)

have a good day!

Probably, but what reason would they have to die? It's not as if they believed in some invisible sky fairy. The only people I can think of *coughcoughsheepcough* are religious fanatics who would throw away everything to die (in vain) for the aforementioned invisible sky fairy.

Therefore, I must conclude that religion is dangerous to one's health.

Just say no..... to god!
