They should have been away from their mum long ago but that can't be helped. They may do it for fun but did you put them on solid food gradually? Also, they may not like the solid food b/c cats are very fussy like that, its the same with my cat, she will not eat a different brand of food.

If it is none of them, seperate them gradually and give them a tap on the but when they do suck their mummy. Try to keep them away for long periods of time, so eventually they will forget all about sucking.

It's normal for them to feed from the mother until around 12 or 13 weeks (they should be eating 4 solid meals a day too). There's no need to separate them, the mother will wean them completely herself. She'll push them away when she's fed up and feels they can fend for themselves.
The mother will not become ill - the worst time for the mother cat is in 3rd or 4th week, when milk production is at it's highest.

Mother barn cats feed their kittens till the kittens stop or the mother has had enough. Nature lets them know when to stop.

The concern I see is that you said the mother was weak, has she not been given enough nutrition to compensate for the birth and feeding the kittens???? She should be on high protein food--a kitten chow--anything with 35% protein in it to help her body adjust.

Her health is important. The whole group (mother and kittens) need a vet checkup soon, to get them on their first shots and to check the mother over to make sure she's ok. Schedule this.

My cats both set of kittens did this. Even though they are on solids they still would prefer motehrs milk, its nutrients are good for them and it also tastes better o and its warm, its like chocolate in some cases. Its best that if they are still suckerling and have teeth, in the mothers wealfare to try and get them to stop but if the mother isnt stopping them than she doesnt mind.

Sooner or later they will be weened of by themselfs (stop suckerling) because their mouths are to big to be able to suckle.

Dont worry x

I had a lovely cat called Rover and she had 2 kittens, which I kept. Her son, Luther, used to breast feed when he was bigger than his mother!! Most times Rover put up with it but sometimes she would give him a smack!! I think it was a comfort thing; he loved his ma..... sadly, I no longer have either cat. This all happened 17 years ago and I still remember it so well. I do still have Rover's daughter, Rosy. She is 17 and lovely.

they'll stop feeding from her when she and they are good and ready!! you don't say how many weeks they are. If they're over 8 weeks then they are old enough for you to rehome them.

Until then, you just need to make sure you feed Mum more than you normally would and she won't get weak.

You have to seprate them and put up with them trashing the place. The mum will get very weak and ill.

i used to have cats that still suck her mummy **** even she was 5 month old. sometimes the mummy let her, but usually the mummy will push away the kitten. i bet the mummy did push your kittens away, maybe you didn't see it, but in this case, try separate this two away.

they just do it for fun, or maybe they still feel like they are babies, and simply don't want to grow up

Unless the mom weens them off her or you separate them, they will never stop feeding from mama. I think part of it is a comfort thing for them.

you don't say how old they are. at 7 weeks they should be fully weaned, they need to be fed 4 times a day until they are 4 months
