I only deal with English speakers when in the U.S. so no need for me to learn another language to cater to lazy people who don't want to learn English.
If I decide to travel or move to Mexico, I will learn Spanish since I respect other nations and their languages.

I feel like I have some advantage knowing 3 languages. I'm Canadian, I speak French because we were taught it all throughout school & I also speak Italian because that's my background. I now live in the US & I'm actually looking into learning Spanish (it's not too far from Italian). You clearly have to right to know just English as Americans & Canadians, but learning new languages is a beautiful thing. I have a great job because of it!

The USA is an English speaking country. You want to live here then learn our language. If you want to live in a Spanish speaking country then learn Spanish. Understand?

All countries have an established language. Court documents, textbooks, books, universities, hospital records, etc are written and recorded in that language. Consider the confusion and expense and paperwork if eveything had to be transcribed into two languages. Thirty states have adopted English as the state language. If anyone wants to progress and assimilate in this country, he/she should learn English ASAP... just like generations of Irish, Polish, German, etc. have done in the past and continue to do. There is no reason for Spanish to be exclusive.

And just what if all the other nationalities who live here want us to learn their languages. How would anyone handle that. Most won't even learn English, what if we were required to learn all of the other languages too?

That question should also be asked in Spanish to Spanish Only speaking people.
Maybe out west you can get away with speaking spanish but you would be lost in many other areas of the country.

We shouldn't have to!! Yes, knowing another language is a great benefit. However, millions of other immigrants came to the US learned to speak English. It is only right that if you want to live and work in a country then you need to learn the language!! Go to Mexico and see how far you get if you only speak English!!!!

How about immigrants assimilate to us instead of expecting natural born citizens to accommodate a group of immigrants (legal or illegal). Why stop at Spanish? Why not German, Italian, French, etc.
Everyone should learn a 2nd language to expand your horizons but the choice of which one to study should be the individuals not those expecting a nation to accommodate a group of immigrants.

Because the large majority of us who speak English are legal. Why should we learn a language to speak to people who don't want to be fully a part of our country? If they want to be in America so badly, they can learn the languge that is used by most of us.

Because it traces back to history. Unless, you see a post sign that says: US OFFICIAL LANGUAGES: ENGLISH SPANISH, ITALIAN, FRENCH...
Officially, it's English. Just as in Spain it's Spanish, even some of them talk in Catalan. So, if you want both languages officially, then US, and ALLother countries must turn like India. Punto.
