Put your fingers in your butt. LOL.... I know "that's gross" but it would work. I mean come on be honest...you go to the bathroom. Your finger breaks through the paper. Next thing you know you're sitting around and you go to bite your nail and WHOA!! I WON"T DO THAT AGAIN!

I saw a piece in an advice column in a paper and it said something about a woman, who had a very horrendous habit of nail biting until one day in Science class, her teacher made each child scrap under their nails and put it under a microscope. When she looked at what was under the microscope she immediately stopped biting her nails as soon as she saw what germs she was putting in her mouth! That made me even stop biting MY nails! I haven't bitten them since then and now they are very long and beautiful and i get so many complements!
Think of it that way and remember what you are eating when you bite your nails! Also your hands are the most dirty part on your body!
My grandma also bribed me with jewelry. I saw a very pretty ring i liked and she told me that she would buy it for me if I promised to stop biting my nails and it definately worked! I'm wearing the ring now and still love it and I am so glad that I stopped biting my nails!

Hi Sweetie,
There is nail polish for that, I think it's called No More Bite r something like that. U put it on & when u go to bite r nails, it's like biting a skunk in the ***! The taste is that bad, but it works, I know girls that have used it & it's a Big Deterant! Wal Mart carries it. Trust me u'll have nails in no time, also start drinking milk for the calcium in it when they start growing it makes em harder. Any kind a milk, chocholate, soya, etc. r take a calcium suppliment. Been there, done that. "Good Luck"

If you can manage to break the habit just for a very few days, your need to bite your nails will be very much reduced and controllable. So maybe wear gloves for 3 or 4 days, or paint something disgusting on your nails. People always suggest bitter aloe, but that certainly didn't stop me, in fact I quite liked it.
Another trick is to permit yourself to bite only one nail on each hand, leaving the rest to grow. When they have grown, just try not to bite the ones that are left.
Another way is to put nail varnish on, or false nails. It seems to help.
I used to bite my nails very severely, drawing blood sometimes, but I did stop eventually - I think just having something to occupy your attention and destressing helps - I had children and just stopped.

What I did that worked for me is that I carried around a bunch of nail cutting tools, like a nail file and nail clippers and clear nail polish, and whenever I felt the need to bite my nails, I just took care of them instead. The results are much prettier, too.

Clear nail polish. Put this stuff on and once you start biting your nails, you'll get a bitter taste in your mouth and you'll become conscious of what you're doing. Also, keep a fingernail clipper nearby so that if you need to trim your nails quickly, you can use it instead of your teeth. Good luck!

My little sister had a habit of biting her nails from about five years old until about 30 years old and she went to a hypnotist and that has helped her. She now says things out loud to herself like " I want to have strong beautiful long nails." This helps her to not want to bite her nails. Good Luck.

Look at yourself from a side view... Imagine how funny you look sitting there gnawing at your fingers... I was out at dinner with my friends and i was bored so i was biting my nails and then out of nowhere this guy (and i'm not going to lie he was really cute) came up to me and was like "you are a very beautiful girl but the fact that you are sitting there chewing on your nails is discusting" i wanted to die i was so embarrased cuz my friends were already used to me biting my nails so they didn't say anything to me. But from a side view it looked nasty. I haven't done it in four years!! And now when i see people doing it i'm like eeww thats nasty i can't believe i used to do that!! :) Good Luck

Chew gum. Do not sit with your elbow on a desk/table/counter because your hand will be there next to your mouth and it will be tempting.
A way I stopped chewing nails is kind of dangerous. I chew on the cords to my headphones LOL. Don't do that though. Gum. It tastes better than nails, anyway. :]
