We hold them both in equal esteem, however we would not have a church without the Book of Mormon. It is the keystone of our religion. The neat thing about the Book of Mormon is that it is a perfectly translated testament of Jesus Christ. It was translated directly from the original and ancient records to English by the power of God. Because of this, it contains many of the original truths that were once contained in the Bible, but were lost in unauthorized revisions and uninspired translations.

previous testomony New testomony yet another testomony The e book of Mormon settles each question Christianity is split on - as an occasion: The place of baptism. Who does it. How. what's to be reported. who's to be baptized. while are they meant to be baptized. the relationship of Jesus to God and the Holy Ghost in the Godhead the relationship between faith, works, mercy, grace, justice, repentance Covenants on the subject of the residing house of israel in the final days How the sacrament/eucharist/communion is to be administered - how, by utilising who, while, what's to be reported - issues that have been lost for hundreds of years with the loss of lifestyles of the apostles - and that are hinted in the bible, yet are not spoke back therein. Its translation of the e book of Isaiah differs from the bible, yet is the same because of the fact the lifeless Sea Scrolls translations of a similar. It makes prevalent the covenants of God with regards to Christianity on the yank Continent, or the covenants on the subject of the land its self, besides as includes prophesies on the subject of the yank Revolution, the invention of the Americas, the Savior's start, and the build up of the Lord's Kingdom in the final days, and diverse warnings on the subject of the corruptions of governments earlier the 2d Coming of Jesus Christ - it extremely is a ultimate e book! This and a good number of extra issues are what are in the e book of Mormon: yet another testomony of Jesus Christ. it extremely is why the e book is so powerful to Christianity.

I agree with Joseph Smith that I believe in the bible, as far as it is translated correctly. I read and study both the Bible and The Book of Mormon equally.

To some degree. I do think that people would get closer to the Savior by reading the Book of Mormon, and learning to understand it. But I also think that the bible needs to be read and understood also. Without the bible, the Book of Mormon wouldn't be complete, and visa versa.

He wasn't saying taht it was more important than the Bible. If anything, he was saying that it's more accurate, more correct, better translated, than the Bible, which has ad a couple thousand years to undergo changes, etc.

I don't see how this quote translates into meaning that the Book of Mormon is "more important" than the Bible.
To LDS one is not more important than the other and neither means as much without the other.
You might as well ask "which leg is more important -- your left or your right?"

We, The mormons read the Bible, The Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and modern day revelation individually on our own as we see fit. At Church we switch back and forth yearly to a different book of the 4. Institute does similur switching back to other books so as to teach all the scriptures. We study and learn everything about Christ and his Gospel.

The Book of Mormon itself claims the words of the Jews were in their purity at the time they were given. It was not until later when the words were translated (sometimes poorly) or parts removed because certain councils of men did not agree with some books or passages so they discarded them.
Yet the Book of Mormon claims that was is left over is still of great worth to the Gentiles. This does not mean the Bible is bad... but only missing a few pieces and blurred a bit due to translations. The Book of Mormon itself does not claim to be perfect either... it mentions having to be recorded in a modified Egyptian to save space... and this caused imperfections.
It is ironic that Smith said this of the Book of Mormon, many of his and LDS beliefs are utterly absent in the Book of Mormon, and even taught AGAINST... sometimes in the most harsh of terms. The Book of Mormon calls polygamy a whoredom and abomination before God. It also teaches against LDS concepts such as 3 degrees of glory, plural Gods, Celestial Marriage, and Baptism for the Dead.
Ironically a Protestant is a better follower of the Book of Mormon teachings than the Utah LDS Mormons are!

It is just as important. If one reads it and follows that counsel, they would know it. I've read both many times.
