Well as I am not your manager I can't explain the reason why not ., but it does seem a bit mean not even to have a little tree and a few bits of glitter . Some places won't allow lights because of fire risk which is just about understandable
Of course your local shopkeeper will decorate his shop , no matter what religion folks are a business person will always look to maximise his profits , nothing wrong with that

It's interesting that some of the answerers have decided this is a race issue. Last time I looked the Muslim faith was open to anyone of any colour.
I agree that political correctness, in its attempt to avoid non-existent 'offence' to minorities, has gone too far and nowadays tends to inflame problems rather than make them go away.

First I understand your from the christian faith, so that alone gives you the right, to put decorations if you want unless your in some land who they are again WEIRD! I think you should talk to your shoe place and see if he's really Muslim or not.

They are being politically correct so not to single out other workers. (even though they aren't, there are people out there that think everyone has to cater to thier own religion). I'm sure this must have happened in the past for them to decide not to put up decorations.
You probably should go with what they asked and not put up decorations... unless you dont' care about getting written up for fired.

Mystic Ma says it concisely. Each business has the right to make its own policies in this regard. And it seems to me that the Muslim shopkeeper is being friendly and ecumenical!

Its his shop, he can do what he likes. You were told you weren't allowed by someone else in charge at work, they make the rules. Come on, stop stirring and turning into a race issue!

i think anyone is entitled to pursue their traditions in their own country provided their not invented to correspond with the arrival of new cultures to that country so as not to inflame tensions, in this instance this has been the tradition in my many workplaces over the years, when you take away these traditions how do you define your national identity? does this not lead to alienation of all the things that makes you proud of yourself and your own country, not much point defending a country you don't feel part of and that goes for all.

I think the vast majority of Muslims are a lot more tolerant that people think. Why can't we all just live and let live. Is your employer Ebenezer Scrooge?????
