Actually I found that my 1990 Tempo actually ran better with premium gasoline. The 2.3 engine in those is one of the rare few where upgrading the gas does make a noticeable difference.

Trade it in for a nice GTI or M6.... Seriously, about all you can do to it is to use Bosch Platinum plugs and make sure your crankcase is clean, using Mobil One or another fine synthetic oil, and make sure it is tuned to factory specks. You can probably find headers for it somewhere, but less face it, this car was meant to be basic transportation and not an Autobahn runner!!!!
