In the time of Jesus and Paul, the "three-storied" view of the world was common. Paul preached to the idea that the realm of the dead was below the surface, the world of the living was on the surface, and the world of God and the Angels was above our sky. This is why he spoke of people being lifted up bodily into the sky.
Since it was a fundamental part of early Christian theology, much of the imagery has endured.
The earlier Hebrew vision of Sheol (the realm of the dead) was of a parallel world coexisting with the physical world.

A supreme being can be everywhere and anywhere. Living within us as the Holy Spirit or in heaven interceding for us. No need to convince me of anything. Why would you even want to?

Well in Greek Mythology some of their "supreme beings" are on earth or like hades in the underworld, and the Devil in Hell, although the devil is bad he can still be considered a "Supreme Being".

Well, in the olden days people thought that the earth was surrounded by the starsand sky, which seems reasonable when you think about how they didn't know. They thought that beyond that was the Heavens. Now, I think that Heaven is just like another dimension, because the feeling of joy is to great in Heaven for it to be in this one.

When folks want to limit where a supreme being is to just "up there" they feel it's a good enough excuse to "fill in the gaps" with junk and BS. Leaving room for others to "Fill in the gaps" with their own version...creating power trips, death...

He can also be in your heart. Something else; people also bare fruits of the Spirit. We are God's buildings and fields. And, the seed of Abraham blesses all the nations of the earth.

Not always. A supreme being could be other places -- Poseidon, for instance.

What would happen if you found out there was no supreme being? Wouldn't you feel a bit foolish?

Probably because since ancient times people have seen the sun as god, and it was in the sky/"heavens". And hell is the sun setting, bringing darkness and going into the "underworld".
