Should I go into the Air Force and go to the Air Force college, then become an officer, or should I get my Bachelors as a civilian first, then go into the Air Force?

Which option would be easier to become an officer?

Definitely get your degree first. Once your in it is ALOT harder to get commisioned. But, make sure you get a technical degree. Underwater basket weaving isn't gonna help the AF a bit.

First make sure that becoming an Officer is really what you want to do. I am an Army Officer and I spent 5 years enlisted so I know both sides. The enlisted side is a much more hands on environment and alot more "fun". If you want a desk job where you might get to go out and see training once a week.. then become an officer. There is nothing wrong with becoming an officer, just dont do it for money or the respect that comes with the rank. I would suggest you go into the AF and learn the ropes, then drop an OCS packet if its something you really want to do. Most people respect an officer with enlisted experience more anyway. Good luck.

If you really want to go into the Air Force an ROTC scholarship will pay for most of your college. However, then you are on the hook if you change your mind.

If you wait until after you get your degree you can just go to OCS and enter the Air Force as an officer. However, you need to find out what kind of degree they want. For example the Air Force likely doesn't want an art degree and won't admit you with such a degree.

So talk to them for you start out! Otherwise you might not get in.

man im in the air force and currently deployed to iraq. my advice for a civilian would be to earn your degree prior to joining the military. and for sure dont join as enlisted. officers make a shitload more money and you dont start off @ the bottom, u start off in charge! i would for sure earn your degree first as a civilian (and enjoy the civilian life, cuz your gonna miss it after u sign!!!), and definetly become and officer. i mean you do get more respect being enlisted first then becoming an officer, but f&ck it. the monies so much better

You could do either. But, if you go through college without ROTC, you have to go through OCS when you enter the Air Force. If you go through college with ROTC or a service academy, you don't have to go through OCS.
