Lately I've been getting an odd sensation of pins and needles in my arms, chest, back, and head, basically most of the top half of my body. It occurs randomly at least once every day while I'm walking somewhere. Usually I just ignore it, but the sensation sometimes gets really strong and even itchy and it drives me crazy, I have no idea what it could be. Also I've noticed that my left arm is a little numb in one area, whereas the same spot on my other arm is fine, but it's a noticeable difference in feeling. I'm just hoping that it's not something serious. Anyone else have anything similar or know what it could be?

More than likely, you are experiencing the symptoms of a " pinched nerve" that is located in either the neck or " thoracic " area ( the chest ) or, both from the spinal column. Any recent injury, trauma ?? Any nausea?? Shortness of breath?? Any heartburn?? Any sweating during the times that you experience such symptoms ?? Does this only happen during exercise ?? I apologize for the questions but, I'm trying to help you if you have such symptoms. The best advice is to contact your Doc and let him or her be aware of your symptoms. He/she knows your medical history and can do some tests to evaluate what is happening and/or refer you to a Neurologist. Please, do this soon, just to be on the safe side.

There's two possible causes: (1) pinched nerve in your neck; or (2) lesions in the brain.

Cause # 1 happens commonly. It can sometimes be resolved by applying warmth followed by gentle stretching. Often this problem is caused by compression of nerves due to muscle spasms somewhere in the shoulders, or where they emerge from the spine due to excessive bone growth, degeneration of the discs or a disc that has slipped out of place. You can get an MRI of your spine to see if problems show up, or visit a chiropractor.

Cause #2 isn't anything to be concerned about unless cause #1 has been ruled out by an MRI.
