I'd like to get my son a good pair of gloves for when he's riding his bike during the winter. I suppose I'm looking for some that are thin yet warm, and not slippery. 'Grippy', you know? (He's been using regular, bulky gloves and that's gotta suck when he's doing his stunts and whatnot, right?)
Anyhoo, I don't know which brands are best. Any good suggestions? It would be especially nice if I could order them online :)
Thanks for all answers!

Oops! The reason I have to ask here is that he tells me he doesn't need any. To me, that translates to: "I'm not gonna wear them" - so I guess they need to be 'cool', too...
Thanks!

Voler makes a very reasonably-priced pair of winter mitts...around $25 for windproof, water-resistant, grippy gloves. Warm but not too bulky. They don't "breathe" as well as some of the pricier offerings, but very good for the price. voler.com

What a typical rider wear are: Helmet to protect the head area.. Jacket and sometimes a protection jacket to protect your upper area as well as protect you from weather condition.. While riding the bike, you sometimes will go fast so you will get too much wind and it will be noisy if you don't wear jacket. Gloves as you want to know, it can be useful in many things: First, You can handle the bike much easier or otherwise if you are not wearing gloves your hand will be slippery. Second, it keeps your hands warm during the cold weather condition. Third, if you fall down from the bike, it can protect your hands.

As porkchop mentioned Pearl Izumi make a great pair of winter gloves for road riding. A little more on the expensive side, but I've had a pair of Pearl Izumi winter gloves for many years and I have to say they're the best I've ever used.

Instead of thick heavy gloves get many thin gloves and layer them. There are many gloves out there made of a wind breaker material. They will keep the wind out. But now you need to keep the heat in. That is where the layers come in. Using layers will allow your son to trap some heat in between and stay warm. I would stay away from any material that can absorb moisture.

You can find a selection of 25 different winter gloves on http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=1141.
I use the Scirocco glove and have been satisfied with it. It's grippy in the right places and reasonably warm.

Having teenage sons, I know exactly what you mean when you say they have to be "cool". Take him to a Harley Davidson store to shop. They have "bike" gloves designed for warmth. They may be expensive, but at least he'll wear them.

Greetings:
I guess the weight will depend on where you live and just how cold it gets. Pearl Izumi makes a pretty nice line of stuff for all sorts of weather conditions:

Sounds like this may be for BMX, and while that's not my bag, seems all the kiddies with thier cellpods and FaceSpaceBook pages like Fox Stuff:

Hope that helps. Good Luck.

They make 'mechanic' gloves that are snug fitting, and have grippy stuff on the palms.
You can find them at most auto parts stores, or in the automotive section of most other stores.
They make them in cool colors, with neat designs, so he might deem to be seen wearing them. :)
