Now which would you want to be in ?

The proven air plane, or the russian made air plane .

The SU-27 Flanker has better maneuverability and high alpha performance. The F-15 has slightly better speed but this is of little use in a dogfight. If the pilots have equal skill, in a no advantage dogfight (from the merge) the SU-27 would paste the F-15.

It was designed AFTER the F-15 specifically to BEAT the F-15. It was not designed as a ground attack aircraft (although, like the F-15, it has ground attack capability). You people are thinking of the MIG-27 or the SU-25 which are ground attack aircraft.

They are of similar design, however the F-15 has a superior avionics system, and was designed for air superiority, while the SU-27 was not. Of course, American pilots are, by far, the most highly trained combat pilots in the world, bar none. So this is kind of a moot point.

I love how mathan just listed off the armaments of the SU-27, yet has zero clue what any of them are for, or how well they perform. Well done, son.

As most F-15's keep getting grounded, because bits keep dropping off them (the airframes are all 20 years old) I'd go for the Su-27, only because it can actually fly....

Roll on F-22, all 183 of them, thats 183 assuming no further cost cutting...hmmm..I wonder if the F-35 is going to be good enough...

As pointed out above the F-15 was designed primarily as a fighter, the ground support was added later on as a role with modifications making it the Strike Eagle, while the SU-27 is a ground attack aircraft capable of defending itself so the F-15 would win. It is performing the mission it was designed for. Rephrase the question to which is a better ground support aircraft and I would go with the SU-27 for the same reason-that is it's primary role and role it was designed for.

The Eagle was designed to sweep the skies clean of enemy fighters and the Eagle can also operate as a fighter/bomber.

So a lot of times in modern aerial combat it is the very high tech of the weapons system which makes for victory in a dog fight.

you do live by your name, if you want facts.....a few years ago american and inidan airforce did a joint military excersice together, the sukhoi's out perofmed the f-16, f-18 by miles, even the air force commander of the u.s air force said this is a wake up call for them...........and whats all this B.S about tihs raptor and f-35, these are not even in full production yey they are only prototypes and the su-27 was doing cobra and thrust vestoring manuvers in 1997 the raptors only or any u.s jet are only doing them now. and get your facts right, su-27 is a flanker, an interceptor not a ground attack aircraft.wot a bunch of uninformed wallies
