My husband of 8 1/2 years proposed to me on one knee in front of all my co-workers and it was one of the most romantic things he has ever done!

If she's a sucker for romantic stuff, it's fool proof! You want the extra 2 points? Ask her Dad first. {Assuming he's still in the picture; you never know these days} My hubby didn't exactly ask permission, he asked for my Dad's blessing. Came in real handy when it came time to pull out the credit cards!

Good luck & let us know what you did & how it went!

P.S. Mercer...I love your guess at how this whole thing got started. I'm having a lousy day & you made me laugh!

Some do.

I always wondered how that got started. I would not be surprised to learn it happened when a guy went to propose and dropped the ring. He knelt down to pick it up while asking the question. Someone saw him do this and they thought he did it on purpose and that it looked cool and now you have a whole new tradition.

Ok, it probably has more to do with respect and stuff like that but I like my story none the less.

Its funny how common this portrayal still takes place, yet I cannot think of anyone I have known who has proposed to actually get down on one knee to do so. I'm sure it still happens on occasion though. There is something to be said about tradition.

I did, when I asked my wife I took her on a riverboat and she did not know it was coming, I acted like I droped something on the floor and when I knelt down to pick it up I stayed there and pulled out the ring, she started crying and said yes and everybody started clapping, I felt on top of the world. Good luck and don'tget too nervous

Only schmucks who beieve in fairy tales.
Just joking, partly. Just ask yourself why? is it a sincere plea from the depths of your heart to serve this woman for the rest of your life? If not , forget it. The proposition will not be televised.

Oh please please do it. I think it would make her so happy if you did. My husband did not and although I got caught up in the moment I was disappointed he didn't get on one knee. He just stood there in front of me. It was only the two of us and he really should have but he didn't (and I later found out he never intended to :( ) and it's one of those few things that sticks in my craw ! You can only do it once, so do it right!

Many still do, but you should do what you feel comfortable with. The most important thing is the question, not the position you ask it in. Good Luck!

I did not. I was sitting next to my girlfriend on a bench overlooking a meadow when I proposed.

Yes =) People do it all sorts of ways!! I think the best is getting on one knee though. It's so gentle-manly =)
