Restricted items are fruits, vegetables, plants, seeds, and soil as well as the obvious reptiles, insects and amphibians. Your items sound fine to bring over. Don't listen to that guy he sounds pretty bitter about something or other and he's just totally wrong.

It is best to buy your groceries there and not bring them in. One of the advantages of being in Hawaii is the opportunity to enjoy the rich variety of local food and fruits. So, it is not necessary to bring a lot of food items to Hawaii.
One important consideration is that many food items, especially fresh fruit and vegetables that are not commercially packaged are either restricted and require a permit or are prohibited altogether. There are lots of rules governing plants, animals, and agricultural items. During your flight to Hawaii you will be issued an agricultural declaration form to fill out and sign and return to the flight crew. You will be required to list on this form any fruits and vegetables as well as any pets or other animals that you are bringing in and those items must be presented for inspection when you arrive. If you do not follow regulations or try to smuggle in something you shouldn't you could be looking at some serious criminal charges.

When you're on the plane, they ask you to fill out this manditory form making sure that you're not bringing hazordous items to hawaii. You have to tell them about every food or animal item that you are bringing with you. You can bring fresh fruits on the plane but you have to dispose of them in a special trash can outside the terminal. You can buy your canned foods, rice and spices all in hawaii for cheap prices if you're on that tight of a budget. However this same rule applies for when you're leaving hawaii too. Some items are allowed but for the most part to stay on the safe side, and save some embarssment, you should just buy your groceries in hawaii.

Those items sounbd okay. There is a Walmart on Kauai, and keep in mind if you're trying to bring enough food for 10 days, there's a 50 pound limit on checked bags. Over that, you have to pay a fee. Your 'shipping' cost may outweigh (no pun intended) the savings.
Good luck.

I am not sure the effort will be worth the $aving$. While groceries are more expensive in Hawaii than on the mainland, it is not that much more to warrant throwing your back out hefting canned goods as checked luggage. (I truly doubt you will get canned goods through as carry on items.)
One of the neat things about Hawaii are plate lunches. With prices ranging from $4 to $8 you get a complete meal of a meat, rice, green salad and/or potato or macaroni salad. Will not win a culinary award but they generally very ono (good) and span all the cultures found in Hawaii. Everything from hamburger steak to beef stew to Chinese, teriyaki or fish.

You are not allowed to bring in any fresh fruits or vegetables due to the tight agriculture restrictions that Hawaii has. As far as spices, canned goods and rice, that will be fine.

I'm pretty sure that you can't bring any fresh fruit/vegetables with you, but the stuff that you mention in your question (canned goods, rice, etc) should be ok. Our hotel room had a little kitchen with a small fridge, stove and different kinds of dishes, cups, even forks, spoons, so maybe you can check with your hotel if you will have something like that or not.

You can bring spices, canned goods, rice etc. if you want, just no fresh fruit or veggies, meats or anything with soil (in case of bugs). Go to www.hawaii.gov/agriculture for a complete list.

I can relate, I can't stand spending a fortune on food and eating out. Check the Hawaiian agriculture website. There are links there for travel related items. The biggest thing is no fruits and plants.
Enjoy your vacation!!

You can bring all of that. Probably not a good idea to bring perishable goods, like fresh fruits, vegetables, meats. Since they are more likely to have bugs.
