NIV is not the Catholic Bible.
The New American Bible, I believe, is a version of the Catholic Bible.

Yep, that's not a Catholic Bible. The New American Bible is Catholic but I would not recommend it.
Try:
The Jerusalem Bible
The Navarre Bible (New Testament)
The Holy Bible Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition
I'll give links below.

style of. For we write you no longer something yet what you could study and comprehend, and that i'm hoping which you will comprehend thoroughly, as you have come to comprehend us in part, that we are your boast as you besides would are ours, on the day of (our) Lord Jesus. (2 Corinthians 13-14) Paul's 2nd letter to the Corinthians became into written approximately 57 C.E. all the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and Revelation have been written after Paul's letter and would or would possibly no longer stick to to this assertion. The verse from 2 Corinthians would in basic terms be suitable to the information that Paul and the different Apostles had written as much as that element. The Jews had centuries of Holy Scripture interpretation by making use of the monks and rabbis. In Acts 8:27-39: Philip asks the Ethiopian examining the prophet Isaiah, "Do you already know what you're examining?" The Ethiopian spoke back, "How am i able to, except somebody instructs me?" the unique readers of the Epistles additionally knew Greek and all of the slang and idioms used of their time. They knew (and lived) the custom, politics, and behavior of every day existence of the 1st century C.E. If I knew the unique languages wherein the Bible have been written, somewhat Hebrew, Greek, and a sprint Aramaic, archeology, and theology then possibly i does no longer desire the Church to help me. The Catholic Church may additionally delve into the riches of purely approximately 2,000 years of continuous bible learn by making use of the main smart and non secular human beings of each and every era. Why would i desire to throw this treasure away? Translations are additionally a controversy. something is often misplaced in translation, no rely how good, how new, or how desirable a translation is. On a lifelike be conscious, with the flexibility to maintain an eye fixed on the great photograph has saved the Catholic Church mutually for enormously much 2,000 years with at the instant over a million.a million billion residing believers. Non-Catholic Christian church homes that interpret the Bible any way they want save splintering off one yet another to the element that there at the instant are properly over 10,000 non-Catholic Christian denominations. With love in Christ.

If you are going to give a Bible-related gift to your priest, it best be a version of the Bible that has been deemed acceptable by the Church.
The Douay-Rheims (English translation of the Latin Vulgate)
The Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition (English translation of Greek Septuagint)
The New American Bible or Jerusalem Bible are also acceptable.
Hopefully you will be able to find something.

The following Bible translations are approved by the Catholic Chruch for personal use:
+ Douai-Rheims http://www.drbo.org/
+ Confraternity Edition
+ Revised Standard Version (RSV) - Catholic Edition
+ New American Bible (NAB) http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/
+ Jerusalem Bible
+ New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)- Catholic Edition
+ New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) http://www.catholic.org/bible/
+ Today's English Version - Catholic Edition
I recommend the New American Bible (NAB) which is the version used during Mass and other liturgies in the U.S. and many other English speaking countries.
Here is a NAB website: http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/

The Bible of which you speak is the NIV Bible. It is only in todays English more. NO< I think you need to get a Catholic Bible for a Priest. I think they have more books in it. I'd check to be sure But, I really don't think the NIV would do.

NIV is Protestant, AND, it's the lousiest version ever. I wouldn't use it in the backyard privy!
That's mighty strong for me to say, but it leaves so much OUT, and changes A LOT.
Consider a gift that goes with the man's other interests. Does he care for photography? Nature? Stock car racing?
He's a priest, not something other than human, ya know.
But, if Biblical is what you want to go with, stick to the Catholic versions.

Give a priest a bible...like giving a dozen donuts to a fat person...
Nice idea but...a new rosary or fancy crucifix would be a more appropriate gift for any Catholic clergy...

If I were you, I wouldn't. No Catholic Priest, Roman or otherwise, uses the NIV.
Search for something else or try this (below)
