I learned how to make an Hors D' Ouveres that calls for fresh figs - the recipe says you can marinate dried figs in hot water if figs are out of season.

Exactly how would you do this ? Heat some water in a saucepan and let them soak ? How long ?

Nah, just toss them in a bowl, add the hottest tap water you have, cover, and let soak. Check every 15 min to see if they are the consistency you want them.
