The baby is a girl. The room is light yellow with sage green French toile fabric and curtains. I am going to stencil a "birds on a pine branch" border in sage green. I'd like a cute French phrase to stencil on the wall above the crib. My other girl's room has a pink and green French toile theme and I have "les jolis petits bebe sont endormis" stencilled on the wall in there. I'd like something similar in the other room, perhaps something that has to do with birds and babies ??????? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

"mon petit choux"

It means "my little cabbage." It's actually very sweet in French, and a fairly common sweet little description.

After four years of excruciatingly painful, forced, French classes, I am loathe to give any advice (mostly because I barely survived a week in Paris, thanks to "Le Burger King" on the Champs Elysees! Seriously!), but doesn't "les jolis petits bebe(s?) sont endormis" mean "the pretty babies are deadened???" I hope it's an idiom of which I'm unaware! Did you mean something like, "les jolis bebes sont tranquilles" ("the pretty babies are quiet?").

Regardless, it might be best not to take the advice of strangers on the web (or anywhere else for that matter), because even pleasant looking phrases may have ominous meanings, such as your, hopefully, unintended one.

So, either ask a trusted, French, friend, or go to a book store or library for a book on French phrases.

Bon chance! (Good luck!)

skaizun has a good answer. How about any phrase you like translated into french by a local french teacher or student?
