I think Filipinos used Spanish until that of our grandparent's generation (til 1970's or so)..my parents know a little, then Spanish lessons were removed from school's curriculum (everyone has to learn spanish before) by early 1980's . In this generation the language isn't used that much by Filipinos. There are lots of Spanish words we've adapted though and are part of some of the 400 dialects we have...smooosshhh..,we sticked to Tagalog now as the national lang.^^ And also, English now is our second language since it's required at school.

italian is really hot, but i'll always love spanish the best. it's such a beautiful, romantic language.
obviously it's not spoken the same everywhere, but that doesn't make it any less wonderful. all languages have their dialects and accents depending on where they live. and as for 'poorly educated mexicans and south americans' speaking in an indistinguished manner, you have to understand that it is not all about their level of education. mainly it has to do with their regional accent, just like american southerners

I find it interesting that Europeans think spanish is "the language of sex". I think most people in the U.S. think that about Italian. I think the general consensus is something like: Italian is the sexy language, French is the romantic language and Spanish is the useful language.
Me, I'm fron Argentina and I do think Spanish can be very sensual (especially with a Spanish accent!) if that's the intention. Most of my friends who've heard me speak Spanish say it sounds very sexy (I still have my " tonadita porteña").

When students in the United States choose a foreign language to study, Spanish is by far the most popular choice.
I have been to Spain and enjoyed my visit immensely. (Even though it was during a very hot summer! :)
Americans of my parents' age (I am 55) have a memory of Spanish and Mexican cultures being portrayed romantically in books and movies. That has changed with our more recent debates about immigration. Today, the stereotypical image of a Mexican is, sadly, very negative.
As for Spain, I find that most Americans today know little about it. Many seem to assume it is like Mexico, including the food!
As for Spanish being a "language of sex", I think that was a perception in the past. But now that almost everybody here has studied a little Spanish, the language has lost its mystery. In addition, much of the Spanish that we hear here is the language of poorly educated Mexican and South American immigrants who do not speak eloquently, very unlike the speech of the "Latin lovers" of old movies. Don Juan has been replaced by Sancho Panza in the collective imagination of US culture.
As for me, I love the sound of well articulated Spanish. I don't particularly associate it with sex, but I find it to be a beautiful language.

Its ok. I would like it a lot more if illegal Mexican immigrants would stop coming over to the United States illegally. I didn't know that about Spanish, I always thought that French or Italian was the language of sex.

I don't think people here generally like spanish. There's a misconceptions that illegal immigrants from Mexico refuse to learn English so therefore we have the burden to deal with this miscommunication or learn the language ourselves.
I prefer language of sex though. :) Plus it's easier to learn than English - I like that.

If your asking my opinion then you may not like it...I think that the Spanish language is annoying to listen to...I don't think it is sexy at all.

In the U.S., I think we tend to think of Italian as the sexy language. Madrid is beautiful, though, wish I could go back!
