If I was taking a class I would invite her to attend with me.
If I was working out on my own, I would invite her to walk/jog along with me
Otherwise, butt out. People are very touchy when it comes to their weight....
I learned the hard way..

I think the only way I could persuade someone to lose weight is by setting a good example myself. But if you're like 130 pounds and run every morning and she's 250 pounds, it's going to be unreasonable to ask her to run along with you as she won't really feel comfortable exercising that hard. People are generally motivated to do things that are fun and make them feel good. So if you wanted to take a walk in a nice park, maybe she would be up for doing it too (you don't have to talk about how she should lose weight, it will just turn her off. Just simply walk for the enjoyment of it). If you came across a healthy dish that tastes good too, maybe she'll try it. You don't have to eat yogurt and cut back on food to lose weight. Just start activities yourself that you know she would feel good about doing too and invite her along (low impact activities like aqua aerobics or something you know she's interested in)

Try to be cool but just tell her.
People who are big realize it themselves anyways.
It just comes down to doing it.
If they can, cool. If they can't, that's cool too.
Not sure what's up beyond the hormone/muscle thing but chicks by nature have a Hell of a time losing weight. Having lost a bit over 100# myself, I had women asking how I did it and NONE could lose it anywhere near that.
Still feel pretty hardcore about weird stuff in the food our bodies aren't used to causing probs - including weight probs - but chicks seem to get the worst of it.

There is no real way for a guy to encourage a girl to loose weight without being disrespectful. That being said:
For a friend to encourage another friend to loose weight, probably the least disrespectful way to do it would be to bring up a health story about someone who died from one of the many health realted issues that goes along with being over weight, then expressing concern for the overweight person, and agreeing to work out and start eating healthy along with them.

No matter how you go about it, women will not take this well. Patience is definitely an asset for anyone who would encourage a woman to lose weight.

I don't know if that's cool, I mean that's trying to change the person and not loving them for who they are and respecting them to make their own decisions as an adult. If you are concerned for them start eating really healthy around them and saying how much you are losing from it, or ask them to go for walks with you because you need an exercise buddy, that way you are doing it for yourself and not just trying to change someone.

Thats a real hard thing to ask but sitting them down and saying it is going to upset them on some level. I would approach it by saying Im looking for a gym buddy walking partner and was hoping you would help me.....
get my drift

By telling her there is more to life than being a machine or doormat for anyone.Try to encourage her to be more productive for her own good.Avoid bringing up a weight issue for his own good.

I think it depends on what mood the woman is in. If a guy says anything, its a trick question. No matter what he says, she will take it wrong. Let another female tell her because they won't get mad with each other.
