It could have potentially been a DUI, actually.

But the cop said Jesus is the reason for the season, and asked my friend if he agreed. He said that he did (although he actually doesn't) and the cop let him go.

I actually don't know why the cop felt the need to even talk about Jesus. Weird, huh?

Good point, Earth. I guess I should have worded it differently.

I wasn't in the car with him. This is just the story I heard from him when I got to work. But I would have had no problem being in the car with him. He wasn't drunk. But he may have been slightly over the legal limit. I'm not sure.

Too bad you could not prove that the cop had asked your friend this. It would have shown the the police officer was probing your friends beliefs and it can easily be deduced that the police officer was planning on offering special treatment to those with beliefs that he agreed with. Any arrest he made and any credibility in him as a witness would be cast into doubt.

This is what you would call a bad police officer. It would be interesting to find other people the police officer had pulled over around the same time (within a few weeks) and see how many others were quizzed like this. This is the kind of stuff that can get a police officer into trouble.

Not so weird at all. He probably knew that your friend was drinking, but wanted to show him how God's mercy works by metaphor. The cop could have gotten in trouble for asking the question in the first place, but felt the need to lead someone to Jesus more than the safety of his job.

How about this: Both of you give Jesus a little more thought.

I have a rosary with an upside down crucifix hanging from my rearview. So that complicates things for me...lol. Plus I custom designed these bumper stickers a while back that said "Christians Suck"...and yeah, at the time I lived in Kansas. I got pulled over a lot.

Anyway, if you can fake piety OR sobriety, do it. We all know that cops aren't the smartest animals on the planet anyway, and that ANYTHING is acceptable to get out of a speeding ticket.

PS - no, I don't advocate drunk driving...lol. I can honestly say I've never driven drunk. High, yes.

Sorry, but I kinda have a problem with this. Someone's faith or lack of faith in a religious being shouldn't have anything to do with whether they should get in trouble by endangering lives as a "potential" DUI. Not even a speeding ticket although that's a lot more minor.

Not trying to be mean, but I have a real prob with peeps who drive under the influence. God has nothing to do with it.

HA HA HA! A couple years ago, I was driving and the guy in front of me stopped quickly and I didn't realize it, and I slammed on my brakes. I hit him - not hard at all - but I hit him. So we pull over and he's looking at his car (which was a piece of crap) and trying to decide if he should call the cops. There was no damage on his bumper other than the rust that was already there and a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker, so I go "Oops, looks like I hit the car right on that bumper sticker there. GO BUSH!" I almost threw up, but he laughed and let me go without calling the cops. It felt a little dirty, but it was worth it :)

If you don't believe in God, why does it matter if you lie? A lie is a sin and if you feel there is no punishment for sin.... why worry about it?

Since I am a Christian and I believe that Jesus is NOT the reason for the season, I would have so gotten the ticket. I wouldn't have been able to control myself in explaining the real reason for the season and it's pagan origins. But of course, I wouldn't have been drinking and driving either, so I guess it is sort of moot eh?

Yes, but that cop stopped you from speeding. Got you to at least think about the season. I personally am sorry he missed the DUI...Driving drunk is the stupidest thing anyone can do. It kills too many innocent people and ruins lives..

For one if I was drinking and got pulled over I would have been real sober after that and then I would have really sobered up if the dude started talking about Jesus!! So I think that cop new that he F****d up dudes buzz and that he could make it home safely after that!

well you might get away with it but it's going to hunt you for the rest of your life if you don't believe in him and you lie about believing on him. so we all do it but it's only good and right for the god believers other than that is not good. you won't like if I told the police that you committed a murder or you robb a bank even if you didn't you won't like people talk bad about you right. that's the same way. don't hurt god or he will hurt you.

He shouldn't, but such has happened. I think the officer wanted to find a reason to be lenient with all good conscience. Personally, seeing it was a DUI, I would have written up the ticket and stopped the driving of the vehicle.

The only time knowing Jesus will come in handy in court is at the Final Judgment.
