My recruiter said if I can pass the PT test before Basic via a 2-mile 15:54 run and a couple of other things he can have me promoted to E-2 before I leave on January 8th. What would the couple of other things be? The 42 pushups and 35 sit ups in 2 minutes? What happens if you don't complete the amount of push ups in time?
I read that that is for the 17-21 age bracket. I am 23 years old.

Patrick - according to a letter from my company commander in the new Future Soldiers Training Program it is possible to be promoted to E-3 before you ship to basic. I am already in as of Dec10th, DEP for Active Duty Army (infantry mos)

In your age group, you have to do 40 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, and run a 16:36. Besides that, you have to complete a training list that your recruiter has. It includes things like land navigation, first aid, and drill and ceremonies. If you don't complete any of it, you don't get the advancement.
You can also get advanced by referring two people scoring below a 70 on the ASVAB, or one person scoring more than 70.

I suppose it depends on which recruiter you're talking to; but if you pass the Basic Training PT test which is at 50% and not 60% of the max for your age group, then yes, they can give you one extra promotion level. For males in your age group, the 60% level is 40 pushups, 50 situps, and a 16:36 on the 2-mile run. That's the passing level if you're out of IET (initial entry training), and in your regular unit. While in training, though (and unless they've changed it since I was in), the passing level is 50%... which, if I remember right, is something like 35 or 36 pushups, 48 situps, and a 17:30 2-mile run, for your age group. I say this because I WAS in that age group (22-26) during Basic, AIT, and permanent party in my old unit. I was unable to pass at the 50% level during DEP, but if I had I would've gone in as a PFC instead of as a PV2 (I got the PV2 because of my college education level at the time).

yes - there are a required amount of push ups and situps within the two minutes. If you do not pass the pre-PT test, you just do not get promoted, they will not kick you out before you go to basic training. If, however, you fail the final PT test before graduating boot camp, then you will black list and be held over til you do.
For your age bracket the required push ups and sit ups are a few less than the 17-21 bracket. Not much of a difference though.

Sorry I can't help with the other questions, but as far as getting increased paygrade from DEP, that's false. You do not gain any rank from the program, and that's true for all branches. Referring 2 people will get you to E2 in the Navy, the Army may be similar. Medical fields are usually overmanned these days, so yes, it is hard to get promoted.

I don't think that is true.
I'm not sure you can be promoted based on pre-entrance PT testing. I would check with another recruiter.
