Uh...I think that people have an idealistic perception of their childhood selves. I can't understand why this happens, but it does. If you were to put yourself into the shoes of a child again, to be young among the youths once more, you would realize that your "innocence" is relative to your present self, and is largely the result of lack of knowledge. Yet, that same lack of knowledge leads to bullying behavior, feelings of inadequacy, and general rage when proven wrong.
I am not under the impression that innocence is a natural state of being any more than I believe that humans have an inherently sinful nature. But, it is just as often that you have to teach a child to adopt traits (meekness, unselfishness, and, through story telling, optimism, to an extent) that we associate with innocence, compared to learning bad or destructive behaviors from their environment as well.
Look at a toddler having a temper tantrum and you will see innocence for what it really is: an oversimplification.

Well we are all born innocent but as we learn to live in this world we learn often not to be ignorant about the facts of life. It is a very subjective and varies from person to person...I believe in some situations ignorance is bliss ! However in today's bustle we don't give much credit to anyone who is innocent ..do we?? It is all about how to win in everything we do or indulge in...
I try best to comply with the prompting of my soul and do not do anthing which is not correct / right.....yes! I feel a lot more relaxed and at peace with myself...maybe not very successful as the society might label me.....Guess I am innocent to some degree!!

I can not reconcile my karma theory with Innocent word meaning.
I was born because of my Karma, so I have vasana already before birth. Do I relate vasana to sin? Then I had sin. By living life I have sinned I am all confused.
Hey deva help me.
I am not Innocent (that means I am inocent) by definition (meaning 2, 5, 6 or 7 above).
Definition 1. goes to my value system and some of that is from my vasana, some are environmental (learned).
Definition 3. is definitely learned.
Definition 4. I try to avoid, but I still can not be free of it.
I am Hindu, I am communing from my conviction.

Innocence is a divine gift of the God. It is enjoyed by the child up to 5-6 years. Once one learns importance of self defence, innocence runs away and pretention takes its place, hypocracy extends hands of frendship and escapism gets associated as near and dear to save skin. Factual introspection on rational reasoning and thorough knowledge of one's reality can back innocence provided one is faithful to one's mind and all activities at all times and places, incidents and all. There should no sign of any prejudiceal reservation even in the seventh room of one's heart. And only SADHANA is answer to this. I am not innocent at all.

Every single human is basically innocent. Hardened social mindsets straitjacket everyone and label them one way or another and people begin to act accordingly. Children, on the other hand do not have set minds. They are open to anything and everything. They are therefore wiser. They should rule this planet, I believe.

Yes we all are innocent basically. Whatever thoughts we have gathered are from this world, in this and previous births. The impressions of these thoughts are deposited in our subconscious mind. Thoughts condition our minds and we are habituated think and act in some particular way. Our basic existence is cosmic and now we are in illusive state as a result of maya-(state of illusion), and repeated hammering of certain thoughts by the society in which we all live.
To debrief ourselves we should learn true knowledge about our selves from real Satguru. Listen to his teaching and practice the sadhana which given to us by him. We need to surrender to him. If we do not have Satguru-Spiritual teacher then we can keep enchanting the name of God and pray God to get Satguru.

I was certainly born innocent, just like you were and anybody else.
My ''wickedness'' is a result of self-defense, bad experience, learning that bitterness is the only way with some people and so on. Basically, that mean streak in me (everybody has it) is circumstantial.
P.S. My boyfriend would disgree with me calling myself wicked and evil. He still claims that there's noone as innocent as me. So I guess, something remained :)
