How about a Canadian ID?

But seriously... when I went through boot camp three years ago you could not bring anything. They go through all your belongings when you arrive and anything that is not authorized is trashed. While in boot camp send lots of letters and pictures. Save the nice gifts for when he graduates.

If the person is in your family then Christmas would be a good time for a HUGE family portrait! Probably a good watch, pair of aviators. For everything else, try talking to his or her recruiter for a list of okay'd items that are not for personal use like toothpaste. Unless that person really likes a certain type of hard to find toothpaste!

Whatever items taken by an enlistee to basic training is stored throughout the period of basic training.

The old saying used to be...and I'm sure still is...the government will issue you what they want you to have.
