Because they are misguided, closed-minded, intolerant of anyone who doesn't think like they do, and ignorant of the facts. If I were to be as intolerant of ________ group of people (just pick one at random to put in the blank), I would be immediately, viciously and shrillly called racist, hompophobic, anti-semetic, jingoistic, latino-phobic, sexist, ageist, anti-muslim or whatever other slur of a buzz-word happened to fit. I and most hunters are law-abiding, and properly use the animals they harvest. Look at these answers here calling hunting "barbaric". I bet they don't know where the meat in their Big Mac or grocery store comes from. I do: "Cows are received by truck or rail from a ranch, farm, or feedlot.
Cows are herded into holding pens.
Cows receive a preslaughter inspection.
Cows are usually knocked unconscious by applying an electric shock of 300 volts and 2 amps to the back of the head, effectively stunning the animal.[citation needed] If unsuccessful, secondary methods include the use of a captive bolt pistol to the front of the cows's head. Livestock are also rendered unconscious by pneumatic or cartridge-fired captive bolt stunning and CO2/inert gas stunning. (This step is prohibited under strict application of Halal and Kashrut codes.)
Animals are hung upside down by one of their hind legs on the processing line.
The main arteries and veins are severed with a knife mainly in the neck and the cow's blood drains, causing death through exsanguination."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaughterhouse
If I were an animal, I would prefer a nice quiet, unexpected, humane death in the forest than anything resembling what animals in an abattoir go through every day.

Every person has a different limit as to what is cruel. Most of those against hunting are extremely hipocritical. Those who say hunting for sport is cruel and mean and sadistic etc, better not own a driver's license because more deer are killed that way then a hunter ever could dream of. So how can you look yourself in the rear-view mirror every single day when you are driving a 100% deer/rabbit/suirrell killing machine?
What about the predators? The family dogs pack together and kill wildlife as well. Should we outlaw dogs? How about coyotes? They kill deer as well and very rarely eat much of it.
I could kill a deer a day and not touch any meat and it will all be gone within weeks as all the local little critters will eat. As a matter of fact, I've personally watched eagles, ravens, and coyotes feed on my scrap piles. When was the last time you fed an eagle? Too busy saving the world driving a Prius? Yea, right, your driving 30-40K miles a year in that burns more natural resources then my 5K year full-size pick-up.

To those of you that said if you want meat go to the store and get it. That meat was once living. The same as the deer in my freezer was once living. The deer felt nothing as a 180 grain barnes x point bullet ripped through its heart. You can call it cruel but it felt nothing. What should we do about the deer that are over populating some farm land destroying crops only to still starve themselves? Letting them starve and break farmers at the same time would be cruel. A nice quick death and then going to use as meat is not cruel. What about the wild hogs that run around texas rooting up crops and making a mess? They are destroying a farmers well being. A quick painless death and then the grill sounds like a good idea. What about The predators that come in to chicken coops and kill chickens? Those people rely on them for food. The preadator is not useful as food? Do they not have the right to protect their well being against that animal?
To those who dont eat meat. Stop trying to push your values on me and I wont push mine on you. It is your intolerance that is causing problems. I dont care that your a vegan. It just means that there is more land for me to hunt on and no line to the meat counter at the supermarket. Hearing you whine all the time annoys the hell out of me though.
To Nick b I will be back in spokane sometime in jan. you can try if you want.

I'm a voting Socialist, personally favor Saiga Kalashnikov designs, but stopped hunting game animals after wartime
service. I carry a shoulder rig suitable for bear & cougar
(44 Magnum made by Izhmash), when in woodlands on spelelological pursuits, but have only three hunter issues:
1. I'd like more to start packing out their poo. 2. Stop shooting roadway signs. 3. Show more respect to others. But, I'm not spanking any bastardy except my own.

For these people the thought of killing an animal to obtain meat is barbaric but the same people can go into a market and buy Fillet Mignon or a T-bone steak, whistling a merry tune. They don't associate packaged meat with an animal so in their minds they've done nothing so terrible as kill a living being oh whoa whoa (that last part was sarcasm). A hunk of meat is a hunk of meat whether you killed it yourself or you bought it at a market. The vegetarians are just hypocrites cause potatoes have eyes and corns in ears and carrots have feelings too.

Its not as bad as what they do to animals.
I respect hunters and fishermen who respect nature and gather its creatures for food.
I DO NOT respect those who put down fishing and hunting and still eat meat and fish.
For their tiny minds ignore the fact that they are responsible for incalculable animal’s deaths and suffering. Every time they go to a fast food restaurant or the grocery store and buy any animal product they support the killing of animals in slaughter houses. Why? Its simple.
If there is a demand for an animal product from consumers then people will produce that product to fill the demand and make a profit. And to make that profit they will crowd animals together in horrible living conditions where they walk in their dung and urine. Next the animals will be injected with growth hormones and about anything to make them gain weight fast including feeding herbivores animal products to save money (this lead to mad cow disease). The animals are then taken to the slaughter house where many are processed still alive. (note hunter never skin and gut an animal alive).
So by buying that Big Mac, or that chicken sandwich they are supporting the slaughter of animals. Then that hypocrite will insult the noble hunter.
And even if they don’t eat meat, just fish. They are supporting fish farms that spread diseases that kill wild fish stocks. Also they then support the commercial fisheries who kill billions of tons of by catch such as; seas turtles, dolphins, fish that they do not have a permit for. This by catch is just shoved off the boats decks into the sea.
Then even if they are a vegetarian they do not realize all the things they use every day made from animal products.
THEREFORE these anti-hunter/fisherman are partly responsible for killing billions of animals!

I do not wish to shame the tree huggers. I would rather explain carefully as others have here what they do not realize. However great that explanation may be they still don’t seem to accept proven facts and data. It’s as if you are talking to a thick headed child.
Question for the anti’s;
Why do anti’s smash hunters windows and hunters don’t smash theirs?
Why do PETA people throw blood on fur coats and people with fur coats don’t throw anything on their clothes?
Why did they have to make laws to protect hunters from the anti’s?
Why have some PETA people been listed as domestic terrorists?
Oh and dickn200.. Your language needs to be more of the average 6th grade vocabulary for some of the anti’s to understand you buddy.

Dear anti-hunter or anti fisherman.
America was founded by people who fought with their lives for the rights we have. Among of which is the right to have guns. If you are against that you are against the Constitution of The United Sates of America and therefore a threat to America and out liberties.
Our forefathers hunted, some trapped and about all of them fished. These men and other who shared their beliefs CREATED this Nation.
So if you are out to prevent hunters, fishermen or trappers from their freedom of expression, free enterprise, and the means to feed themselves you are going directly against EVERYTHING our forefathers built this Great Nation on.
You can not expect the millions of people who carry on the traditions of our forefathers to change our Constitution and beliefs for you.
As I write these words Americans are fighting and getting killed on a foreign soil FOR THESE RIGHTS!
You are a disgrace to your Country. For instead of just using the freedom people have died to give you to choose not to hunt or fish. You instead try to FORCE your Anti-American agenda and beliefs on the TRUE Americans and destroy our Constitution.
During World War 2 a Japanese General said; “We have woke a sleeping giant!”
Well if you anti-American jerks aren’t careful you will wake that giant again!

Most tree huggers are people who have not found thier identity yet. I actually went to school with this guy who was all about PETA, and hippie music and flip flops and tye dye shirts and anti guns and anti huntiing. He bags a pretty nice buck every year now for the past ten. I rag on him sometimes about the old days and he says basically what I just did. He was trying to find an identity.
