During the winter, I have problems with dry skin. At times it gets so bad that the itching almost drives my crazy. What can I do besides slathering myself in lotion?

I wash with Cetaphil or a generic equivalent. It doesn't strip away your natural oils like soap does, and helps moisturize.

Have you checked with your doctor to make sure there aren't any other issues, like eczema or seborrheic dermatitis?

I asked nearly the same question on Yahoo. Got lots of good answers, and followed some of the advise. Here's my experience (what works for me). I was itching to the point of scratching my skin off (lowers arms and legs).

1) Water - hydration is from inside out - no way around it - water! DRINK 8, 8-OZ GLASSES A DAY.
2) I bought a humidifier - THEY WORK GREAT! They're cheaper these days and they're made better.
3) Oatmeal baths (cheaper brands work fine).
4) That Gold Bond cream in the green bottle. Makes you smell like a funky mothball - but it really works. Important when you need relief.

There you go.

I have this - it's time to change your facial products! Your skin changes with age (no offence intended!) and also in accordance with the seasons. Now it's winter, your skin is much drier because of central heating being on etc. Go to a Clarins counter at Boots / Debenhams or wherever and get them to do a consultation for you. I recommend them because I have found them to be the most effective for me. Even if you already use this, it's time to be re-assessed for the appropriate ones for your skin. Don't go near Clinique - their products dry the skin horrendously. **** I grew up in Cornwall - are you not going to Truro, Plymouth or Exeter for your Christmas shopping? Big Boots stores, Debenhams, etc and also, a lot of small independent chemists stock different beauty brands and have their posh counters to speak to an "expert". Is there not a beauty salon anywhere in your vicinity? I'm sure they could give you samples of whatever they have, and see how you get on with them ****

Get the Hydrating Creme Concentrate from Bee Royal! It is the best! It doesn't cover up the dryness with an oily greasy film. It actually heals your skin while moisturizing. It is all natural too which is a huge plus for me! They have several different moisturizers to chose from depending on the severity of dryness. Anyway here is the link.

Bee Royal makes a Hydrating Creme Concentrate for Body that is perfect. It is oil and petroleum free so you won't be "slathering" yourself in lotion. You will only need to put it on one or two times a day.

Use a moisturizing body wash. Or put a TBS of coconut oil in a hot bath and soak for 10-15 min. Coconut oil is wonderful for dry skin. I use it as a lotion but it can be used for many other things as well.

I would get yourself a good skincare routine with quality products especially for dry skin. I use Liz Earl http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.html/params.file.%7Cframes%7CClasFrameUK82,html/walk.yah.UKHB-UK82?cm_re=PAGE-_-BRANDSHOPS-_-LIZEARLE and I swear by her. She has won awards for her products too. I know they're quite expensive, but mine (for dry skin) has really worked for me. I used to get really dry skin on my cheeks and it would sort of flake, nasty! But since i've been using Liz Earl products i've found it has completely cleared up. I hope this helps you xx

I use benadryl if the itching gets too bad. They have pills that will make you sleepy. I use the spray whenever I find it.
