"Thieves cut off man's 'holy leg' " BBC news article.
"Police in southern India are hunting for two men who attacked a Hindu holy man, cut off his right leg and then made off with it.
The 80-year-old holy man, Yanadi Kondaiah, claimed to have healing powers in the leg."

Or are the elements of greed, violence, and religious faith all too easy to believe? (and horrific when they combine!)

Religion,

The burning of a man's wife with him when he is cremated.

The strong belief that this is necessary by some wives who throw themselves upon the fire!!

Now read this in a different frame of mind.

The Holy Man had lied so much that he had convinced the local people that his leg had the power to heal the sick.
No doubt he charged for his services.

Among this local crowd was a man whose daughter was dying from leukaemia. So he stole the leg to heal his daughter, unable to raise the money needed for a consultation, and continuously being refused a free session.

I do not know the truth behind this story, but you can bet that mine is as good as any newspaper you can buy.

Whether it be religion or superstition-people in underdeveloped countries often do things or act in ways we cannot understand or reason with! I am not saying this is right of course-but for example remember the story about how men in some African tribes were raping girls as young as2 or 3 years old, because witch Doctor told them that a virgin was needed for them to sleep with to cure them of AIDS! They were taking girls as young as possible to ensure virginity was intact! Wrong things happen in this world and we cannot understand it all.

This is what becomes of mythologies!

Hinduism is, of course, not a religion. It is an 'ism' as the word goes.

Try differentiating between religions & mythologies!
