"Keep the feet of the saints" probably means to safeguard to care for them. Think about it: FEET were the main mode of transportation, unless one was blessed enough to have a donkey or camel.

Another verse in the Bible says, "How lovely are the FEET of them who bring good news." The custom was to wash the FEET of guests who'd traveled to your home; they'd journeyed by foot and were dusty and sore.

Even bad people chill out when in darkness, because nobody is as strong as he thinks, especially when alone in the dark.

It means the same as when God told Joshua to only take 300 men into battle, remember, only those that lapped water like a dog and to send the rest home because God wanted them to win the battle with a very small army so that they would see that it is not by power or by might that God's people stand but by the mighty power of our God alone.

Old fashion way of saying he will "guide" the feet of his saints. He means to keep them on the right path and out of harm.
